A few years have passed and I resolved the issue I had with my K40 being a .40. I picked up a (Black T?) K9 parts kit and converted it to 9mm. It's still a brick but at least it's chambered for a caliber that matches most of my other pistols.

The slide was missing a rear sight, $6 from Kahr. I shot a couple mags before I ordered the sight, no failures but hard to aim. I installed the sight and am heading to the range with it again today.

Would I be correct to assume that the parts kit was surplus? Did you have to replace the slide or are they interchangeable?

It was from a company that sells guns destroyed for police departments. I used the K9 slide and barrel. I don't think I could have used the K40 slide.

P.S. Reliability was fine for ~ 70 rounds today.

P.P.S. reliability was fine for 100+ more rounds. I am using the .40 mags, by the way.

How is the trigger? While I certainly like the size of my Kahr, pulling the trigger makes me feel like I'm rowing a boat. It's hard to be accurate with it, especially when shooting fast.

Typical Kahr DAO trigger - light, smooth, and short for DA, long with a long reset if you are used to SA or Glock-style triggers. I also have trouble shooting fast with it unless targets are big and close.

P.S. It's not just the Kahr I struggle to shoot quickly and well with, it's pretty much any pistol that isn't a Ruger Mark II. Perhaps training is in order.

Those are cool guns, and underrated in my view.

They were in the running for consideration years ago when we transitioned away from 1911s.

I had an E9 for several years that came with 1 or 2 .40 mags that never had any feeding issues. It was really nice to shoot, but as you mentioned they are bricks.

Which is the intended use for that gun, although mine were quite accurate with slow fire. I had 3, all were solid reliable little guns.

My son and I went to the range yesterday, he brought his Glock 43X (with RDS) and I brought the Kahr and my Gen2 G19. The Kahr weights 10 ounces more than his G43X and carries 3 less rounds. It is also noticeably more pleasant to shoot. The safety dingus on his trigger protrudes least twice as far as the one on my G19 and is sharp cornered. Along with the lighter weight, it made the G43X simply unpleasant to shoot compared to the Kahr.

My son didn't shoot the Kahr but agreed my G19 is much nicer to shoot. It also has a smooth faced G17 trigger assembly and is well broken in.

But the Kahr was not without issues of its own. The used slide arrived sans rear sight, which I purchased and installed. It shot left or right of POA on the first range trip, so when I got home I carefully drifted both sights to center in the slide. The front sight seemed to move awfully easily, but I really did not think much of it. Yesterday the pistol shot right at POA, much to my pleasure, at least until the front sight moved in the dovetail. I found I could push it back to center with thumb pressure. Last night I removed the front sight (with my fingers!) and tapped the dovetail closed a bit. The sight re-installed nice and snug so hopefully that's the end of it.

I really like this pistol as a 9mm, it is night and day from shooting it as a .40.
