Buffer Problem. Need Help

Recently lost buffer retaining pin and spring. Bought a new one and it does not fit. The pin it too big. Spring fits in fine. I thought these were universal. It there a smaller size I can get? It is in my collapsing stock from Law Tactical.
Any ideas?

Too big how? Too big around to fit down in the hole? Too tall?

Did you back out the buffer tube a turn or two to allow the pin to fit down into the hole?

It's too wide to even fit in the hole at all. Height is not the issue.

The one that was in there before looked nothing like the new one. I think the guy I bought the gun from rigged it somehow.
