NRA THREE Rules of Gun Safety...WTF...?

So just watched the American Rifleman.

    NRA’s Three Safety Rules

ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

Are they F'ING kidding me? Were FOUR simply too many to remember for new shooters? Who approved this effin BS and why aren't they dead?

And what the actual F is this keep guns unloaded crap? What happened to treat all guns as if they were ALWAYS loaded? Too complex a concept for simple minds??

Don't even get me started on the Fuddy Duddy they had demonstrating the 3 rules of gun safety and the scenario he demonstrated that had more than a few really bad ideas in it.

That sound you hear is Jeff Cooper spinning in his grave.

Sadly it is all about the money. It is a shame that certain folks on forums like this are not the leaders of such lobbying groups.

Like other orgs they have a room full of guys (maybe some babes) whose sole purpose is to improve everything all the time. Sometimes they don't improve the thing, but that's the cost of progress.

Progress would be two new rules for a total of six. Crap like this is likely to cost them a lot of money. Even with all their shenanigans, the NRA could at least fall back on "We are the number one promoter of gun safety and we are the standard", well now that is gone too.

Progress isn't necessarily an improvement, the thing just has to change, then it's better. Progress, improvement and better are all subjective to the guys in the "improvement room". And they're in charge. I'm sure they all answer to Wayne and his cronies...so everything is ok...you're the obvious problem.

ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. OK
ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use. I have guns loaded I may not shoot for days or weeks.

Progress was a great thing - it just went on too long.

No, the final rule will be 1) Hand over any firearms or objects that look like firearms to the federal authority knocking at your door.

Soon the NRA will be the National Knife Association, advocating for safe possession of butter knives and blunt tipped steak knives.
