    Are Libertarians my friend??

And another reason I think libertarianism isn't and never will be my view. It sounds like Big L thinks guys like me should, sooner rather than later, be thrown under the bus. No MAGA for these guys.

I'm a Small-L libertarian, and there are few greater foes to implementing libertarian principles and policies than the Big-L Libertarian Party.

If you were a college student in the 1960's and a member of the Weather Underground (Students for a Democratic Society), you showed up at airports with Libertarians and spit on soldiers returning from Vietnam. Both groups had their own agenda, but had some common interests and odd relationships. This aspect of the Libertarian history isn't well known these days.

This was an op-ed by one Cato employee so I'm not sure that it's accurate to say it's the viewpoint of all libertarians or libertarianism in general. Libertarians range widely on the issue of immigration/border security. The fact remains, though, that Americans, as a whole, want immigration- legal or otherwise.

That's why I used Big L. As far as immigration goes I'll have to be that guy who isn't most Americans. I know millions, if not billions of people would like to come here, the idea of becoming "American" (whatever that might mean these days) is a now racist idea with over half the country thinking so. Do I really want more muslims, people south of border, or for that matter, Europeans coming here? I see this article as an inside look into Big L's mind, who are in cahoots philosophically with big industrialist like Koch. Flood the US with the vast unwashed of the world for cheap labor. Who cares if their beliefs and ways are toxic to true liberty, we have merch to make and sell.

more libertarian then republican but really just leave me alone let me do my thing say what I want have what I want

I believe the gov should protect us as a whole provide roads etc...

but be radically downsized and all politicians pay scale tied to military and NO lobysists at all no investing for any politician during the time they serve other than what they had going in so a freeze if you will and two terms in any office

that alone would do it BUT when the same politicians make the payscale and rules for their own jobs with our checkbook ? and are liars cheats swindlers etc... this is what we get

Personally I find a lot of their positions to mirror my own. From what I know of you sir, I would doubt that you would find Libertarian social positions to be much to your liking, though their fiscal and small government ideals you might. Not gonna bash the OP, I know where he stands and I can respect his views even if I don't share a lot of them.

Frankly I'm kind of a fiscally conservative "small L" libertarian to a large degree. I can't get behind the open borders aspect of the L party even if I support more legal, controlled immigration. I also know that there are a lot of real, bad, boogeymen out there in the world and that an isolationist/non interventionist policy is not viable even though I wish it were. Good fences make good neighbors. Same can be said for the rifle by the door. I like a lot of what they say, but those are deal breakers for me. I don't agree with the Republicans all the time either.

I will say that I doubt the big L's would throw the OP "under the bus", but I know they have some dealbreakers in their platform for you as well.

    Are christians my friend?

So let me judge them all by because some of them espoused some ridiculous nonsense. That's like me letting the RINOs define the Republican party and conservatives.

Very disapointed with the CATO institute. I would say at this time the Cato Institute is not a friend of individual freedom. Btw, thanks for flying that story, I just changed my Amazon smile benefit from the Cato Institute to another recipient.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

The big L Libertarian party does not seem to be what it was in the 1990's.

Consistently though, the 2 issues I don't agree with the Big L Libertarian party on are decriminalizing illegal aliens and abortion. That being said, their position on that is much better than Big D Democrats and Big R Republicans since both "sides" vote to fund both festivities while even big L Libertarians don't support subsidizing either.

Without subsidies, I tend to suspect much nonsense from the bottom to the top of society could be limited.
