It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
Chuck, we miss ya man.

That's odd. Must have been a weird transitional thing where they were just trying to use up parts as Colt likes to do even if the combination makes no sense.
Can't say I've ever removed the flip up sight post from the base and I'm sure some special tools are required. Could check with Specialized Armament as I'm sure they know the procedure.
But doesn't the non locking actual sit in place in a very sturdy manner? What made you even notice it. I'm not sure if mine locks or not, but I know its tight AF. Going to check mine now. But mine is 6945, same difference I think.
My first AR was a 6940 and it shot very very tight groups. I started with the wrong idea about AR's.
EDIT: mine is definitely locking, I had to fight that SOB to get it back down.

Mine from 2009 doesn't have the lock latch, but it is the most secure spring detent folding sight I've ever used. But even still, if it got knocked from the front it could fold. This doesn't bother me, but I guess it was an "issue" enough that Colt felt the need to include the latch.
