    New Project completed 7.62x39

    Hola,

I titled this a new project but all I did was buy a complete upper and swap out a few parts on an existing lower. The complete upper came from Bear Creek Arsenal. The lower is Sharps Rifle Co., the lower parts kit is PSA. Since it is 7.62x39 I have two ASC mags (a 5 and a 20). The sights and hand-stop are UTG. The dot sight is a Sight Mark Ultra-shot R-Spec. The red rail section is by Gotical (Amazon brand). I have a light for it but my handguard is M-Lok and the light mount is Key-Mod. I have a (red) M-Lok/Key-Mod adapter coming that is also Gotical. A QD (red) sling mount, red/black 550 cord sling and a Sight Mark T-3 magnifier are on the list when I get paid. I 500 rounds of Golden Tiger 123 grain ball and want to get to the range but this being 7.62 I have questions that I hope the forum can help out with.

-I am planning on a 50 yard zero. With this in mind what would the expected point of impact be at 100, 150 or 200 yards?
-Is there a better zero range that provides little deviation from point of aim/point of impact within 50 yards?
    -How wet/dry should I run a 7.62 upper. My 5.56 AR's like a thin coat to run.
-Are there any, down the road, useful mods? I have heard that there is an enhanced firing pin that is beneficial, as well as a stronger hammer spring.

    I run a 25 yd zero with 7.62 X 39.
Assuming 2300 FPS with 123 FMJ that puts me 4.4” high at 100, 2.4” high at 200 and 11” low at 300.
I use a RD on the gun, so given the mortar like trajectory and no magnification, 300 is my realistic range.

I run wet, like my 5.56 guns.
A true "Gun Guy" (or gal) should have familiarity and a modicum of proficiency with most all firearms platforms.

    Couldn't have said it better.

Its an AR, run it wet, really wet.
Same with the 25 yard zero.

Try and get your hands on some c products mags. They're fantastic and have been more reliable than my ASC and D&H.

C product mags are great. Extended firing pin & a full power hammer spring. H2 or H3 buffer. You can get the tungsten weights & adjust your current buffer. Run it wet

C-Product mags are now Duramags. Good to know when you search. I use Duramags/C-Product mags for both my AR 7.62x39 AR's.

I run a 50 yard zero on mine. Haven't shot it enough to confirm drop at different distances, but according to the Strelok app it should be 1" low at 25y, 0.67" high at 100y, 0.83" low at 150y, 4.76" low at 200y, and a whopping 21.65" low at 300y. I don't plan to shoot defensively at longer ranges, and can dial in some correction as needed for longer range target shooting. This is assuming 125 grain bullets at 2365 fps, which should be pretty decent estimates for a 18" barrel and typical ammo. 16" barrel is probably close enough.

I say shoot it. If you have failures to fire, then get the enhanced firing pin. My 7.62x39 Bear Creek Arsenal upper runs like a champ on my M16 lower.

Get the RZE Unimag. They run 100% and are profiled like regular AR15 magazines. They're on sale for $20 right now.

Here' my high dollar video of them. Shooting starts about half way through.

Finally, get yourself a Maglula 7.62x39 AR15 magazine loader.

I've got close to 10k rounds through my PWS MK116 in so many configs. Red dot, fixed 10x, thermal and irons. With my intended use being plinking and hog/coyote control my zero was 40/200 with 123g HP Wolf Polyformance. If you are dork like me and call Wolf to get their BC and then chrono it out with a 3" sight height like my thermal it gave me a great ~ 4" max point blank range for hogs/coyotes. Slightly different for day glass with sight height, but such a great round for a lot of different applications. Piled trailers full of hogs for about .15c/round.....all I did was add a suppressor just runs like a tank. Great free site here: this is my trajectory profile for thermal:

50 yard zero. 100 yard target with 6 o'clock hold.

This tracks pretty close to the ballistic calculator. Up 1" at 100, about 4" low at 200, 19" low at 300.

    Thumbs up

Yep, a H2, or H3 buffer minimum. I have a 6.1oz in at least 2 of mine. (I have 3) A 5.4 9mm buffer would calm down the recoil. Mine are all mid length gas.

Check with BCA, it may already have an enhanced firing pin in it. I don't have a high power hammer spring in any of them. I have had a problem with Wolf Mil-Spec with deep set primers on some of them.

I have a butt load of spare bolts. I got several just before the WUHAN RED DEATH shortages started. I run these as my primary bolts. https://youngmanufacturing.net/produ...olt-7-62-x-39/ If you want one email Debbie Young and she might give you a "heads up" when they are going to the chrome shop.

I run the C-Products Defense mags exclusively. Yep, Duramag now.
