    Correct.

If was really old it would be in a cardboard container...

I’ve been wondering how old is too old. I have some IMR in the metal cans like in these pictures. It doesn’t smell or look any different so I assume it’s probably still good. Anyone know?

I have some Hodgdon Long Shot I wanted to use for some mid range 44 mags. It looked normal but had a bit of an acrid smell to it. I emailed Hodgdon about it and they said it was gtg. The rounds I loaded all shot fine. If the powder in the pictures all look fine and don't fry your nostrils, you're fine.

If it smells and looks like new powder, it should be fine. When powder degrades, it turns red like rust or smells foul and doesn't have the clean solvent smell.
