Yes, my largish hands just don't agree with the BHP either yet from time to time I find myself wanting one and I've owned three of them. My SAO CZ 75 fills the role nicely and maybe just a little bit better.
I wanted to love my CZ75B as well, but couldn't until I found some very thin carbon fiber grips that brought it back down to the size of my HiPowers. The DA reach is still on the long side, but I use it cocked and locked so that's not an issue and I dropped in a 97 trigger which has, to me, a much better shape.

My dad gifted me one last year he got for a steal from a guy subbing for him on a job site. He got the high power, a glock, and another shotgun for like $600 total. I never have luck like that with gun deals. HE said he was willing to pay more but the guy said that is what he wanted.
From what i can tell it is an FN marked with 1986 manufacture date. Bluing is still decent and the gun is in decent shape. He gave it to me last year and i definitely plan on refinishing and having some upgrades done, just being a little more cautious with the budget until COVID is settling down
Prob be sending it to Action Gun Works later this year
Below is an aluminum framed Hi-Power that Don Williams from The Action Works built for me. It has a hard chrome finish. Yes, aluminum can be hard chromed. It just has to be nickel plated first. It has a custom extended safety, 3 dot sights, new springs and is minus the magazine disconnect safety.
I have about ten others including a 30Luger and 40S&W.
I knew that another company made aluminum framed HiPower copies, but I did not realize FN made them. Its a gorgeous pistol for sure.

Thanks. There was a company in FL making aluminum frames for a while, but I forget their name.
As mentioned the CIA had Hi Powers. See Chief Watson's comments in his book "Point Man", he talks about going to work for the "agency" in Vietnam IOT get a High Power. Frank Serpico, NYPD, specifically purchased one because of the magazine capacity. Novak also did some custom High Powers for the FBI HRT. The High Power seems to have fallen into the "Specialist" role in the US. As mentioned in it's stock configuration the trigger is not as good as the 1911s and the stock thumb safety was IMHO sub-par when compared with the 1911s. Stock sights were also a bit small for my taste. However, when properly tuned it's a great pistol. The later comercial models addressed a number of those issues. I also agree with the comment above about LE largely going to DA/SA semi autos like the S&Ws, SIGs and Berettas, the US buying public seems to follow or mirror the the buying habits of LE/MIL. I've got a high power, while it spends it's time in the safe most days, it's still fun to shoot and I find myself quite taken by it's lines.
