Bullpup 7.62x51 / 308W - range toy and item or curiosity or real? Tavor 7 or MDR-X?

I'm thinking about a shorter overall 7.62x51 bullpup rifle. The only two viable sources I am aware of are the Tavor 7 and Desert Tech MDR-X.

To be honest I have never seen a Tavor 7 in person and even the X95 seems to be in short supply. DT has a bad reputation overall but, their MDR-X looks viable and I can get one for MSRP locally. I might consider a 6.8SPC based bullpup but I'm not aware of any compatible with that brass size.

What are the pro's and con's for one of these over a more classic 5.56 based rifle? I assume most of the extra weight is between the hands and handling qualities are similar. How is muzzle blast?

    TIA,
    Sid

Anyone who does research on desert tech semi autos and decides to give them money really is a rare optimist. Performance, ethics, legal drama, delivery times, recalls, changes in features... take your pick.

I hope to be that guy one day. I'd really like to put a Tavor .308 through it's paces, honestly it's the only Tavor that has any interest for me at all.

    Kel-Tec RFB not an option?

Mixed reviews like most KT and bullpup designs.

FN FAL mags are a problem for many people. SR-15/AR-10 mags are a whole lot easier for many people to source.

Having gone down the AUG and FN SCAR-H mag road, I'm a little harder on mag sourcing than many though, FN FAL mags aren't anywhere near the problem FN SCAR-H has been historically. With the Biden presidency and his talk of a Beto led confiscation or NFA taxation scheme, whether obscure hard to find mags is good or bad remains to be seen.

Good point. One might have thought Kel-Tec might have done a redesign on it to accept the -10 style that has become more plentiful.

Same could be said about the SCAR as well...

I do remember when surplus metric FAL mags were like $5 a piece.

MDRx? Seriously? No way should that be considered, unless you want a nice paperweight and lots of hassle.

Yeah. Burn the money in front of your face and slam you bawlz with a rubber mallet - at least you will see where you money goes and be in charge of the pain.

    Foook That.

And in regard to SCAR-H mags - I agree that anyone deciding to jump into 308 at this late hour is better off going with a standard pattern weapon that takes 308 PMAGs. But up until a year ago, SCAR mags were easy to find (albeit $$). Have the rifle and a lifetime of mags stored, it's not really a problem for anyone already in the platform (same for FAL users). I recall some of the MGW sales of Belgian Military contract SCAR 17 FDE mags for $32 IIRC. Bulk packaged but who cares, that was about as cheap as I'd ever seen those mags.

The tavor 7 is you're only serious option. I have one, runs all ammo types well. Not light, but balances well when shouldered and easy to move.

The Tavor 7 is the one that seems to make the most sense right now. Mag compatibility is a plus for me as well. Now, to find one in stock somewhere that isn't price gouged by panic buyers or greedy sellers.
