    Dan Wesson DWX

Here we’ll discuss a new pistol that does not seem to exist in the wild yet, revealed for SHOT 2020, and we all know about the COVID/election/TP panic and how it has affected the industry. Its a hybrid of a 1911, with the trigger being K-style 1911, the top half being linkless ala Sig, P09, and P10, and the mag being double-stack, single-feed. Edgy-looking Commander type hammer. There is no bushing, and it uses a flush target crown. There is a manual safety, but no grip safety, and it has a hump in the backstrap. Beavertail for those of you with larger hands. There are two models, Fullsize, and Compact. There’s plenty of slide to grab and there will be forward serrations. Serrated top and an external extractor, of course. There are threads on PF, the Hide and Enos, but I’d rather follow it here.

It has some compatibility with existing stuff, such as 1911 trigger components and CZ grips.

The Fullsize has a 19+1 capacity and a 5” barrel. It has a light rail and a flat front trigger guard. The grips, baseplate, and trigger are anodized Crackwhore Red (tm). Plenty of aggressive checkering. It is claimed to be targeted at USPSA Limited, but the rail could be used for mounting an Open style optic, and I suspect the barrel would be easily swapped for a threaded model with a big ass comp. It is chambered in .40, in addition to 9mm. It weighs 43oz. Sights are fiber optic up front. https://danwessonfirearms.com/product/dwx/ https://www.midwayusa.com/product/102242604

The Compact has an aluminum frame, a 15+1 capacity, and a 4” barrel. It weighs 28.5oz, claimed. There is a little less red blingy bullshit, since the grips are black, as is the mag baseplate. The checkering is square, frag pattern, and it is present both front and back. The sights are a combat style with a ledge in front of the rear and a U notch; its a Henning Group Battlehook. Tritium in the front, with a high-vis photoluminescent yellow ring, much like Triji HD or Ameriglo Agents. Its available with a rail and has a rounded trigger guard. The Compact might be good for IDPA, perhaps. https://danwessonfirearms.com/product/dwx-compact/

Interesting, some of the videos hid a link to ads when I copy-pasta’d, even when there was no ad loaded. Eff you, youtube, for that, you sneaky bastards. I’ve attempted to correct this, but check Full30 instead or do a search if the links are messed up.

    Reserved for corrections to OP.

I’m not seeing an optics ready model. Maybe that would change if they sell well.

This looks sweet, but I have reservations.

First, as you said the blingy red bs is ugly. Even on the compact when it’s just the trigger. Worse still, a gun with that much red coloring tells me it will be gamer-oriented. This means accuracy, low muzzle flip, but also possible lack of last round slide lock, reliability under adverse conditions.

Second, the compact has no rail. This also tells me it’s more of a gamer gun. After clicking more links they do have a rail on the compact now

    Third, accessories/mags/etc. there are none

Fourth, price. I’m not a cheap spender when it comes to handguns but $1799? $799 and I’d consider it but given 1-3 $1799 is laughable.

But I’m not an IDPA dude so maybe I’m missing the point.

The red BS looks like it could be replaced, although I’d probably leave it alone, because reasons, such as wanting to leave carry pistols the eff alone, and not knowing anything about 1911 triggers.

I agree that they both look suspiciously gamer-y, so I would shoot the everliving crap out of it first if I were to carry it. Maybe consider some lapping compound if necessary, but at that point it would be a match/range gun, for me. Not that I’ve been doing any matches in a while, unfortunately.

There is some speculation that it might fit in 1911 rail gun holsters, but obviously thats hard to confirm right now. DW/CZ seems to have put some effort into backwards compatibilty of parts, so I wouldn’t be surprised to find that some other mags work. Dunno, CZ’s are way out of my expertise. Wait.... I don’t have much of that with pistols. Almost forgot.

About IDPA. Its probably the gamerest of gun games, but its cool that I can walk onto the range wearing my carry setup and a few boxes of ammo in hand, and not come in dead last. I get a lot of procedural penalties, though. The fishing vests are hepatitis.

ETA: yeah, the price is very high. You might be able to think of it as a 1911 substitute. I guess the market will decide.

Mags for the full size are P10F and P09 mags, they’re available. The compact runs CZ 75 compact magazines so that shouldn’t be an issue either, maybe just a different base pad.

I think they should offer an optic ready model though.

Both run either full size or compact CZ75 grips, so changing out the red nonsense will be easy.

It’s a cool idea, that’s for sure. I kinda want one.

I have been waiting for this to get out in the wild so there’d be more than gun writers say-so on the matter.

Yes, it’s a little expensive, but I figure being from DW, it’s probably in line with the rest of their offerings.

I don’t think we’re gonna see it this year, maybe never at this rate.

Not a fan of all the red accents yet those are pretty tame compared to what I saw at my last IDPA match. Matching holster and shirt colors, etc.. Maybe we'll see another version with the CZ bottom half and a Dan Wesson .357 mag revolver upper ???
