I've often considered... IF we could succesfully replicate spider's silk... which is SIXTEEN times stronger than the strongest steel..... we could do this very effectively.

I've heard the talk of silk weight penetration protection before. The problem is that without the mass to spread out the point loading you would still end up with a gunshot wound. The bullet would just be gift wrapped with your silk shirt.
