    The CIA's "Project Aquiline"

From the CIA's public reading room. An interesting project featuring a bird-shaped air vehicle that apparently had an impressive range. The shape was to minimize recognition from anyone seeing it - having the outward appearance of a large bird of prey. Sounds like the plot to a low-budget movie, but a lot of money was spent on it:

"AQUILINE is a restrictive access involving a small powered glider capable of flying thousands of miles, emplacing devices, interrogating previously emplaced devices, and performing special reconnaissance or collection missions.

It will present bird-like radar, acoustic and visual signatures designed to blend with the indigenous signal environment; Possessing a range in excess of[ii:%:%%fi it will be capable in fits advanced form of hovering-over-targets for as long as 120 days."

Which makes you wonder what they're trying to take attention OFF of by revealing this.

Precursor to today's drones, that program was ahead of its' time. Imagine how well it could have gone if they had the funding.

Do we really know that they didn't though...and what do they have now if they did.

I think the historical docs kinda show that. At the time funding was being allocated to the U2 and SR-71, and to CIA presence in southeast Asia.... but I agree, with their partnership with the Air Force and DARPA, who knows what they have now??
