    NATO standardizes the 5.7x28mm round

So, is this a potential boost to military applications?

"The 5.7x28mm caliber is now integrated into the Multi-Caliber Manual Of Proof and Inspection (AEP-97) and joins the standardized NATO small caliber ammunition portfolio, along with the 9x19mm NATO, the 5.56x45mm NATO, the 7.62x51mm NATO and the 12.7x99mm NATO (also widely known as the .50 caliber).

As a NATO standardized caliber, the 5.7x28mm provides armies with the guarantee of interchangeability between ammunition from different manufacturers and operational efficiency in weapons of this caliber."

    Bottom line?

In the next war Uncle Sam's Arsenal of Democracy has to supply European allies (perhaps because of the Russians, or maybe Chinese or Martians), all 5.7 will be made to the same drawings to American manufacturing standards.

Doesn't mean in the wildest that the United States Department of Defense has a requirement.

FUNNY you should mention that. I think the Calico M-950 was given NATO trials for the SAME reason, 30 years ago.

Well it's about time! Highly underrated and misunderstood cartridge. The only thing it has going against it is the large grip size required to accommodate it, and that might cause some issues with females being able to use something like the FiveSeven effectively. Other than that, it could easily replace 9mm.

Ya, no. Wildly overrated, was adopted by some SWAT teams and such, and performed so poorly they dropped it. It has a legit use in a very narrow niche for which is was designed, and or, an overly expensive plinker. It's a very poor choice for SD/HD.

Might be a decent choice in the vacuum of space. Low recoil (helping with Newton's second law perhaps), high velocity and flat trajectory and due it's original intent, probably make nice little holes in space suits.

I'm still waiting on the space lasers from Moonraker.
