I've never understood stuff like this my entire adult life. I mean, I get that it looks similar to such and such and that 22's are fun but what gives? Reminds me of when Mossberg crammed a plinkster action into an AR looking "chassis" to hop onto the "tactical" market.

Is it a lack of manufacturing capability, import laws, trademark issues, etc as to why stuff like this isn't produced in a centerfire caliber?

    Training toys for kids.

These are all just Umarex guns, airsoft frames with a .22 caliber tube for a barrel. HK, Colt, IWI and others license an official name but none of them come close to even a "standard brand" AR with a .22 kit dropped in it.

For $200 you can get a conversion kit for your stamped AK.

Wonder if 5.45 is actually a .22 barrel? That is the conversion kit I'd like to see.

5.45mm bullet diameter is .221, driving band diameter on most .22lr is between .223 and .224. So it's an overly tight fit. I've heard of a guy that modified a CMMG conversion to work in an AR 5.45 barrel. Apparently it shot like ass. Couldn't keep rounds on paper let alone on target.

ETA: it is certainly possible it was his modification that was to blame for the poor performance. I only heard about it. I have no idea of his competence, he could be awesome or he could be Bubba.

Tight fit is probably why there aren't AK-74 conversion kits everywhere. I'm just not crazy about barrel inserts personally.
