It is a cold hammer forged FN barrel. Those aren't cheap. So you pay a gunsmith $50 to change it. You still have a $300 barrel with $50 invested.

The chip isn't the problem. The problem is WHY is it chipped. And is it even a chip to begin with, or a natural void in the stock. Personally I wouldn't even think about it for anything other than a dedicated 22 upper.

Right after you headspace the chamber. Lathe time, mill time, welding and grinding time for 50 bucks. Maybe if the gun plumber isn't in business to show a profit!
