Bulgarian AK-74 parts value questions

I purchased some AK-74 and “AK-105” parts new from K-Var quite a few years (decades) back, and have no plans to do anything with them. AK parts seem pretty hard to value right now for someone who hasn’t spent any time in the AK world, especially using Google. So, any help would be appreciated in figuring out what they’re worth. I’d like to move them along to someone who wants to use them, not flip them on gunbroker. So, I’m looking for a fair price for enthusiasts, but don’t want to give them away. Will be putting funds toward an AI AT and glass.

First, is a new, not surplus, AK-74 Bulgarian parts kit. I have everything they sent me, not sure if anything else is needed.

Second is a Bulgarian 5.45 AK-105 barrel assembly, with RSB, FSB/GB, handgaurd cap, Krink style muzzle device and detent/springs.

Also, plastic side-folding stock assembly. It seems to have the block, all pins and spring needed. Again, everything K-Var sent me as an assembly.

Also, have 10 Bulgarian polymer mags.

Any well-intentioned help is appreciated. If this kind of post is inappropriate, let me know, and I’ll delete it.

I can help you out as I'm very familiar with these kits and the current market prices. The market prices have gone through the roof on the 5.45x39 rifles and kits to the point that it's almost illogical in my opinion.

I’d like to move them along to someone who wants to use them, not flip them on gunbroker. So, I’m looking for a fair price for enthusiasts, but don’t want to give them away.

I typically use GunBroker as a reference. GunBroker does charge a fee of about 4%, so I typically deduct that when referencing GunBroker prices to set my off GunBroker price.

First, when you go to sell this stuff, you'll need plenty of pictures for potential buyers. Make sure you get pictures of the bolt face and barrel crown.

First, is a new, not surplus, AK-74 Bulgarian parts kit. I have everything they sent me, not sure if anything else is needed.

Post a picture and I can tell you what's missing. It should literally have everything except the middle section of the receiver. If it's like what K-Var typically sold, a buyer will need a receiver, US fire control group and a couple of more US compliance parts, but don't worry about it. The buyer will know what he needs and will take care of it. There are two recent sales on GunBroker of original barrel Bulgarian AK74 kits. One was $1,600 and the other was $2,500. The $1,600 was completely demilled and had a part that was slightly deformed during the demilling process which likely caused the kit to go for less than it otherwise would have. Prior sales that I've seen were in the $1,800 to $2,200 range. I have recently sold two of the original barrel Bulgarian AK74 kits. Both were in excellent condition and came with matching numbers receivers. I sold each for $1,850. Reality is that I could have done a little better on GunBroker, but it wouldn't have been worth the hassle to me. In my opinion, if your kit is from a new demilled rifle and there's nothing wrong with it, you're looking at $1,700 to $1,800 off GunBroker. That would be plenty fair to the buyer.

Is this the 12.5" barrel assembly that they were selling? If so, it's gold if you have everything. Post a picture and I'll let you know. There's literally no way to know what they'll sell for because they're so rare. I'm guessing $1,500+ in the current market, but it really just depends on whether or not you have two or three people who really want it.

There are no recent sales on GunBroker. I'm guessing it would go for about $200 if it has all the parts.

That's just my guess, so I could be wrong. To get the maximum you'd need to list it on GunBroker with plenty of pictures and the appropriate title and description. Does it look like the barrel assembly in this picture?


Here's what that barrel assembly combined with an AK74 parts kit will yield.


Unlike the similar 5.56x45 and 7.62x39 12.5" Bulgarian barrel assemblies which were made for milled receivers, the 5.45x39 version was made for stamped receivers. Arsenal never imported a rifle or pistol using this barrel assembly, so getting one is the only way if you're wanting to build the above rifle.

Factory barrels today are worth way more than what you paid for entire parts kits way back when.

Thanks for the info. Here are some pics of the parts kit. I believe it was sold as new parts, not surplus. All the parts except the black plastic furniture are still sealed in plastic. I only opened the barrel plastic to take pictures.

The top two pictures confirm that you have a virgin kit (all parts new, not from a demilled rifle). That's more desirable than a kit from a used rifle, but probably not as desirable as a kit from a new rifle that was demilled. This is because whoever builds it will have to drill all of the holes in the barrel assembly and engrave the serial numbers on the parts that need them. Do you have the front trunnion? It's not pictured. If not, that's a major issue. Do a search on Bulgarian AK74 front trunnion if you're not sure what they look like.

Do you have the pins, detent spring, etc. for the barrel that's pictured on the bottom? They sold them for a while with, and then stopped including them.

Don’t have the front trunion, do have the detent and spring parts for the barrel.

Ouch and good. The virgin front trunnion is a $336 part on GunBroker right now. It's the most expensive part next to the barrel. I think that you'd have to take $350 off the kit since the front trunnion isn't included. An alternative is for someone to purchase a milled receiver from Tortort. They're $500.

The milled receiver is cool, but it's not original.

You also seem to be missing the trigger guard and selector stop. I also don't see the drum for the front sight post. Is the bolt complete or stripped?
