Low round count pistol drills to shake off the cobwebs

    Hey y’all

I haven’t shot since November 2020. I used to shoot a couple times per month and dry fire regularly, but between school and the pandemic ammo crunch that’s been put on the back burner. I’m on break until Monday and headed to the range tomorrow to help my dad sight in his 509T, and I’m also bringing 100 rounds of 9mm and 100ish rounds of .38 Spl to practice with. I’m planning to warm up/plink with my 686 before shooting my RDS G19, but I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for a low round count practice routine? I’m sure I have a significant amount of rust to shake off

I’m probably going to a private range that allows holster draws, but there’s a small chance it will be closed and I’ll have to go to the public range where that’s not allowed. When I get home later I’m gonna do some dry fire Eleanor and a couple other drills, but any suggestions for a 7-10 yard drill would be appreciated

FAST Drill. Low round count (six), challenging and a great test of the fundamentals

Drills I use most range trips. Its tough sometimes cuz I like doing them cold/1st thing out of the gate when I get there, so with that said I switch it up & rotate each time. Not in any particular order but some of my favorites!

These are a few that are good I feel, I also like setting up barricades/barrels and shooting around or moving from one to the other and using the Circle targets. Also good ole cheapest ya can find paper plates are awesome if you don't have a printer or access to cheap/free copies. Paper plates & 3x5 cards are great FAST Drill alternatives to printing it off.

Lately I have been taking a half dozen mags and loading them randomly with 2-5 rounds each. I then run any number of multiple target drills. An easy way to make a box, or half a box, of ammo go a long way while improving your gun handling skills.

If you are interested in low-count/no-count training, check out John "Shrek" McPhee. He does a lot of 'virtual' diagnostics and training for just such a thing.
