I'm not familiar with the Nosler RDF. I haven't been able to test them, but fully expect to get great results from the 178 grain ELD-M and 175 grain Lapua Scenar-L from a 26" 700 XCR TLR.

Before I stocked up, I would try to find out if the gun liked 168's or 175's better. Also, I would try and get a 22' inch barrel if possible to get a little velocity. 24 inch max.

The TMK's are still great bullets and the Hornady bullets def rock. A-tips cost a fortune, but ELD's are GTG at reasonable prices. Get that thing built and bring it to the ranch, we can test a bunch of our loads and see what it likes.

Varget and 175 SMK is a pretty easy combo to find good load. I put plenty through my 700 before it got a new barrel and caliber. As mentioned above, longer barrel is going to help. Especially past 1k.

So if you were going to choose 1 bullet to stock up on for target shooting what would you choose?

    - 20 inch 1in10 barrel
    - 1100 yards is realistic furthest range
    - 1400 yards is available but would only be shot at for shits and giggles
    - Planned powder is Varget
    - Would like a bullet known for easy loading

I was thinking the 185 Berger Juggernaut because I read it does really well through transonic, but I hear the newer 168-175 weight class bullets are extending the super sonic range than the older designs.
175 Berger OTM fits in my 20” perfect and easy to reload with IMR 4064 @ 44.5 in WW brass with Fed 210M primers
OAL 2.832” Rem 700 and Varget 44.5 with CCI BR2 primers
Excellent Choice Varget in 308 Win but 1k can be done but is above its purpose in 20”.
In my 20” I have best results at 600 yards and under. 1k yards with 20” is a challenge. Years ago I had a SSG 69 with a 25.5”in 308 win and could regularly ring steel at 1K…a great rifle.

Nosler 175 RDF have become the bullet of choice for my 20” .308

Right powder, and loaded long, you can get them up around 2700 FPS.

185 Berger’s are awesome but just can’t push em fast enough in a 20” to take advantage of the extra mass

This is the standard for me. There's nicer B.C.s and stuff out there. But you can buy shovels full of the good old 175 SMK and load years worth of ammo.

If I was a low volume shooter and got out only once a month or less, I might develop a fancier load. But the old SMK will keep you blasting every weekend.

175 SMK and 178 ELDM have both been easy to find a load with in my .308. SMK's being a bit more consistent for me.
