Odds are you had an m4 spring which has too many coils for an ar-10 since the 308 buffer is longer.

A while back I posted how to tell the difference.

    Quite a few .308 rifles don’t run reliably on 147gr mil-surp ammo
Would have ran quality ammo before opening up the port

Using a high speed camera (cell phone in slow-motion mode) is a great tool to see carrier speed and help troubleshoot these issues.

I know issue has been resolved, but are you using a carbine length tube and buffer? On the .308 you need an A5 length tube to run a carbine length buffer.

If your running a .308 short buffer disregard.

Once upon a time my AR9 would not consistently lock back on an empty mag. Went from a 3.0 buffer to a 5.4. It slowed the BCG down.

Yes, I read it is fixed. My PSA runs everything. I have no idea what the gas block is set on. It runs Wolf Mil-Spec for the most part.

I built a .308 but it was a rifle length gas system that was initially over-gassed. Even with an adjustable GB I ended up putting an H3 buffer and springco orange heavy buffer spring in it to slow it down. It runs great, but still does not have a lot of rounds through it.

I used the Aero Precision M5 .308 Carbine Buffer Kit #APRH100158C which included the correct length buffer (2.558") but it was lighter at 3.436 ounces vs. the advertised weight of 3.8 ounces. The heavy buffer I replaced it with has a stainless steel body and weighs 5.5 ounces.

He should put it back together lube the hell out of her and go shooting.
I had a new Armilite that I had to dump oil in to get running right until it broke in

My Larue OBR had to break in for 200 rounds before it would reliably feed.
