    MGRS maps?

Looking to "re-learn" land nav on my property. I have my old compass and protractor.
Anybody know where I can buy the type of maps that we used to use in the Army?
I do have a Garmin with Topo maps loaded, but want to work on my analog skills.

And the 1:24,000 ones seem to show more detail.

What's interesting is finding an old topo of your area. Our first ones were dated from 1971. You can find all kinds of neat stuff that may no longer be there- that old rail line that has been removed- but would still offer a high and dry walking route. Old homesteads that are no longer there may have shallow or pit type wells, etc.

The 1:25,000 are the ones that will have the MGRS ON THEM.

A topo map program where you pick the area and scale is handy.

When I was playing around with map and compass it always seemed like the area I was exploring was situated at the corners of 2 or more quads.

I recently purchased some MGRS 1:24,000 maps from www. mytopo .com (link left cold) with decent results. Beware the "folded waterproof" though. It might be water resistant, but the ink will begin to smear and the paper fail after being fully submerged and heavily used without having a chance to dry off.
