They can't come to terms with the reality that the old, great Hawaii is dead and gone and is never coming back. I left accepting that fact and my younger brother is leaving shortly who has also come to terms with that reality.

We can never go back...only forward...whether you like it or not. Many Native Americans learned that the hard way, many Hawaiians and local residents of Hawaii will too. Unfortunately it will be too late for most when they do.
Man, the ONE TIME my teacher came back from Hawaii with real Brown Sugar (and not the kind in the box at the store) and everyone got 5 (1 lb ziplock bags). I sorta understood what heroin addicts must feel like, when it was gone....that was a tough come back. My mom suggested using it to make cookies and I was like screw that, we aren't wasting this on cookies. Oatmeal was never the same after that.

South Florida late 70s, early 80s every kid 10-16 had a pair in their back pocket and it was sometimes funny to hear the BS cops would tell them about their teflon coated "cop killer" nunchaku.

Arnis made practical sense at least as most thing you can pick up will function like a stick.
A few years ago there were still a few Broward County deputies still carrying nunchucks on their duty belts

Last time I saw that was probably late 90s for BSO. I remember seeing it as early as 1981. Pretty sure Joe Hess introduced the program out at BCC as early as 1979, maybe even earlier.

Even PDs using Orcutts have run into "image problems" lately. Seems no matter how comprehensively trained, somebody eventually goes Babe Ruth with their compliance weapon. Kinda sad, the PR-24 was incredibly versatile when used correctly but the Rodney King event pretty much marked the end of that and every other effective baton. As usual seems LAPD screws it up for everyone else.

I was on motors for quite sometime and a few of them came to my department for training. Could have been a motorman thing

I was using one as recently as 2006.

PR24s are a’ight I guess but if you don’t keep up on it; you forget all the ninja moves. I used it more as an impromptu break and rake or a reaching stick than anything

But of course. The Maglite, especially with LED, has been very handy. The PR24 got left in vehicle, the collapsible was too bulky, the ASP was never a good impact weapon.

You will find as one advances in age in Law Enforcement that they carry less and less and their guns and flashlights get smaller and smaller.

But the maglite is the truth

The PR-24 was fun to roll in your hand, kinda like what those NYC cops do with the lanyard on their batons. Rolling a PR-24 while talking to somebody makes them take notice.
