I remember the first time I had NY pizza in actual NYC.

I was underwhelmed. However I remember this pizza and would kneel on someone’s neck for ten minutes in a self defense situation to have but one slice again

It was so, so good. I don’t know what was in it but I have never had anything like it. Especially in the late 90s.

I'd have been in on it sooner if they called them ice cream sodas like everywhere else in the country. Obviously it's a NY thing. But after that the guy at the counter where I brought my purchases would look at me and say "You want egg cream?" and I'd say "Sure, better give me one." Between that and Carvel Flying Saucers I sometimes was late to the game. At least I understood everything I needed to know about Cozzoli's pizza from day one.

Having practiced Hawaiian Kenpo, Parker's Kenpo and been around a bunch of Hawaiian black belts I understood a lot of that Brudah.

I like most "non fast food" pizza, but a really good NY style is hard to beat.

Wonder if that is an early derivative of Anthony's Coal Fired. For South Florida Franco's and Leonzo's were the ones to beat. Amazing pizza. Only time I've ever been to NYC was at the airport passing through to Europe and back so never had the chance. I imagine if you learn what the good ones are they are amazing. Got to do deep dish in Chicago (3 hour time between flights) and Giordano’s was spectacular.

The other (sure you know types names) that was huge I never got into was the filipino stick fighting stuff think there are a few forms ? Kali and another one (have to google I forgot) ! HUGE but a large amount of Filipinos in the islands so makes sense
For a while( I was in my late 20s when I saw it spike) was like every HS age kid had sticks and no exaggeration pretty much every kid have em sticking out their backpack or with them playing with em walking down the street and would be tons of em playing under the banyan tree clicking away like mad ! Or even on the beach I would see em going at it ! Looked fun though enough pain to get good not enough to make you say no was my view from the outside
Reckon could have been like a yoyo phase or frisbee phase or whatever as later it dropped but was cool to see for a while I figured maybe some guy started a class in school and it caught on ?

Arnis, Kali, Arnis De Mano...variations of the same thing more or less. Cool thing is if you know sticks you sorta already know machete's (or bolo's as they call them) and vice versa.

Good thing those sticks weren't tied together or you'd have "OMG deadly nunchaku that can move at speeds of 250 mph (assuming you are in a car going 250 mph) and can generate 10,000 lbs of force with a simple flick of the wrist." South Florida late 70s, early 80s every kid 10-16 had a pair in their back pocket and it was sometimes funny to hear the BS cops would tell them about their teflon coated "cop killer" nunchaku.

Arnis made practical sense at least as most thing you can pick up will function like a stick.

Too funny. I see you picked up a little pidgin. It's weird, when I go back to visit there, I immediately can go back into speaking that way with friends and family, but can transition right out of it when needed. My wife mocks me sometimes at home because I fall into the pidgin around her since she understands it too. Too funny.

Most of the time when I go to the pistol range I see people from unfree states trying out their brand new gun. That's the first thing they do when they come to TX and get settled in.
