I figure anyone that views guns strictly as tools won't be posting in gun forums for long. Anybody that's got thousands of posts like me is an aficionado of guns. Still my "doomsday" guns are a Colt AR with and a Beretta 92 just because I trust those guns not to have issues and trust myself to perform my best with those guns under pressure. My real-life day to day gun is a boring old J-frame .38 with laser grips just because I can toss it in my pocket and (because of my employment) carry it pretty much every waking minute.

That being said, I have had periods where I carried 1911s as my daily carry and they are fantastic guns and are as good as a gun can get at delivering accurate, fast first hits.

Great thanks was a enormous help to me. I shoot pretty respectable groups for a amature, but always favors left as I'm a rightie.
A great man once said all brilliant solutions are simple solutions.
That advice has helped me save the sanity of many a new Glock shooter. No one ever told me this but my hands figured it out for me over time. Once I learned this tip I noticed I was already doing this with Glocks automatically. But yes, that instruction should be included in the box with every Glock.

If you're interested in guns as weapons (i.e., not simply as a hobby or as collectibles) then it behooves you to have both an AR and a Glock. Hard to think of better choices in terms of support and future viability.
That is hard to argue with. Although I'm not a Glock guy, The wisdom in the statement is valid.

I'm in line with Greg Bell. AR & my Beretta M9A1.
I carried a .45 1911 for 25 years daily. Jumped to M&P's then 92's. For the last few years the RMR'd M&P & a 92 RMR'd compact were my EDC. I still shoot both a lot( to stay proficient but lately I've regressed to my 1911 .38 Supers. It's familiar territory for me but for a "Mad Max" world, My AR & 92.

I don’t have a choice to carry or not. Part of the uniform.

Over the years, I can see how some people feel like “well you don’t ’need’ a gun. Call the cops, get a dog, blah blah blah” because they have to carry one all day.

I never felt that way and never will. I am absolutist on the Right. However the “magic” of guns has long left me. I have more “fun” with a Vietnam War clone or some old beat up Series 70 copy.

My working rifle is well thought out but reminds me of work. My Glock is my preference as it is something that I have mastered but it simply serves a function. Throughout my career I have carried a Gen 3 Smith, a legacy Sig, and a Beretta (slicked up and customized per agency). It was just a gun. My main gripe was weight after a while.

I love my slutty Colt rifle but it is fairly utilitarian.

Past a certain point, guns themselves seem beholden to fads and shillery. I’ve had some super sweet imports over the years and kept none of them. Everything is an AR for me. I have so much muscle memory that I don’t see the point in a whole separate manual of arms just to launch a projo.

Guns have become fashion statements. A new form of man jewelry. But in a way, the lingering joy of familiarity is good. I know exactly what my Armalite AR-10 and SR-25 will do. Same with my 5.56.

There’s a lot of Zen. And in that Zen, peace.

Nothing wrong with that. I have moved past thinking there is THE way to be a gun owner. That's part of my zen I guess.

    You have achieved Gun Enlightenment.

    Why is your Colt slutty?

Ever listen to Liz Phair’s H.W.C.? Na na na na what my Colt has seen. I got it brand new around 2004 and used to use D ring extractors before getting LMt Enhanced bcg stuff. It’s gone a few years without cleaning off and on, fired a bunch of steel case Eastern Block ammo, been a patrol rifle here and there, and has been through quite a bit.

It’s the rifle I have shot the most of my pile and the one I care most about among anything 5.56.

Gotcha. It’s your “man with one gun” rifle.

I side with Firefly, I am an AR and Glock specialist rather than a Jack of all guns. I have a few others but none have been shot in many years.
