Airplanes collide in mid air over Denver. Oops.

I haven't flown in years, and I don't have a lot of hours anyway, but how the F does this happen? Of course I've never been in a traffic accident in a car either, so I guess I don't understand a lot of things.

Sounds like a failure of what's called "See and Avoid." If I see a plane coming at me broadside I'm IMMEDIATELY dumping altitude, and if I see one crossing my windshield I'm altering course to tack my nose pointing somewhere behind his tail.

Once those are done I contact ATC and report Collision Avoidance maneuvers, and as soon as the other plane's safely in my rearview I request a clearance back to altitude and new heading to get back on my way.

My son is going to start taking ground/flight school at that airport over the summer... Report says that it is one of the busiest non-commercial airports in the US...

Of course the report comes out and my wife freaks.

Some idiot on the ground says that he's worried about planes crashing into his house. Surprised he didn't have 10 masks on.
The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.

    It's that simple.

If he's that afraid maybe he needs diapers for more than just his face...

That Key Lime pilot (single pilot ops) declared emergency due to engine failure when he was on short final. He likely felt the yaw and the loud bang thinking it was an engine failure as you can’t really see the right engine from the left seat of that plane. He did exactly what needed to be done and kept totally calm. The Cirrus blew through his turn to final on the parallel runway to the one Key Lime was cleared for. They were fortunate to get the chute pulled because if they were upset in attitude at that altitude they were not likely to recover in time.

There was a student first solo in a Cessna behind the Cirrus and saw the whole thing. Here is a good video analysis of it with ATC audio.

Wow. I'm actually impressed that they kept em flying after that.

The San Antonio Sewerpipe is a tough bird. Been flying for many years. Some are still in the hands of the military but most are flying freight these days.
