The husband was livid that I didn't arrest the man for attempted residential burglary and "terrorizing" his family.

Those poor kids don't stand a chance of being normal. No matter how many times I see it..."OMG a black man...RUN..." always catches me off guard. Hell even most "bad guy" black guys are relatable once they are caught. I don't mean the violently sociopathic ones but those guys are scary in every color.

But if I had to pick who I'd rather talk to between the "yeah you caught me, I know I was doing wrong" black guy or the "OMG a black person...lock the door" white lady who never broke the law I probably can understand the petty crime guy more.

After all I've never seen a black person go "OMG a white guy...RUN...he gonna get us."

I had to share this because I still think it is funny.
About 20 yrs ago I was renting a room for a few months near JFK. I was near midnight and just starting to snow.
I am walking back to my temporary housing and a car full of black folks drove by and they locked their car doors.
I guess they thought I was some crazy white boy.

I was dispatched to a Command Officer's residence to retrieve what he believed was a live fragmentation grenade. I arrived and he lead me to a steep incline behind his back yard. I viewed what he reported through binoculars and could not make a determination about what the device might be. I asked when he saw it at the bottom of the steep incline and he told me he first saw it in his back yard near the compost pile. I asked how the device wound up at the bottom of the steep incline and he told me he kicked it down the hill.

An EOD team from a local US Army base responded and recovered a pipe fitting covered with mud.

It was at this stage of my career I learned I was not Command material.
