I have to question if many of you even read the article. In the first few sentences he clearly says he disagrees that .45 ACP is obsolete. Also to those complaining about him shilling the Springfield XD and 1911, this article was written on and for the Springfield Armory website and forums ( The Armory Life). To me this is just an entertainment article for the Springfield echo chamber. A big old nothing burger. It sure stirred the pot

I'm sure if he'd been writing for Glock Koolaid Anonymous he'd have been using .45 Glocks as his examples, it's called "speaking in language your audience understands."

Granted the .45 will have more energy at a greater range, but you would really be lobbing them in there mortar style at that point.

And inside that 50 meter effective range of subs from a pistol, I would go out on a limb and guess that 9mm is probably going to penetrate just as far as .45, and maybe even have less tendency to deflect given its tighter cross section.

This thread got me thinking last night that it would be really cool to have a bolt action integral .45 like the de lisle, but then it struck me that we have .300 blackout for that now.
When I hear people say stuff like “yeah, well .45 is natively subsonic” (I also used to say this), I just assume they can’t count above 146, and don’t own a can. Or, perhaps, they are restricted logistically to a particular plain brown box. Either way, pretending that reliable 9mm subs don’t exist is stupid.

I agree that .45 ACP is obsolete in today’s world of wondernine bullets and modern pistolas. So all you’s guys out there stuck with obsolete weaponry and slow, heavy bullets can mail it all to me for proper disposal.
