Tromix is supposed to be the best option. No personal experience. I keep thinking about a .458 (and a .300BLK, and a .30 AR) but then... "SQUIRREL!!!" (In the form of NODS, PEQ, tax stamps, etc.) and that's as far as I get.

Tromix is the best. Tony is very knowledgeable with big bore calibers and he will take the time to talk to you if you have a problem. He stands behind his products.
The SBR is the way to go. The 458 is still loud suppressed.

Tromix for sure. Tony was instrumental to the development of the cartridge and the guns to run it.

Just surpassed 1k rounds fired with my Tromix upper. It’s runs like a greased pig. Super reliable and haven’t had any barrel/bolt related failures.

I did have a spell where It was short stroking. Finally traced that to a leaking gas key due to one sheared bolt. Resealed, replaced bolts and it was up and running. Carrier was BCM

I know Tromix has a good rep but do they make any barrels with a twist other than 1/14 which is best for heavier bullets? I know Wilson Combat does a 1/22 which is supposed to be better for bullets up to 350 grains, for non suppressed use that seems to be a better option.

For any who might be interested Opticsplanet has a few Wilson upper build kits for sale with free 2 day shipping both 1/14 and 1/22.

I have extensive experience with the .458 and have worked with Tony and Marty on several projects. Tromix makes a 8” and 10.5” 1:10 twist in .458 S for using with the super heavies, meaning over 500 gr. I have barrels in 1:10, 1:14, 1:18, and 1:22. The 1:14 will stabilize any bullet, sub or super, to 500 gr. I saw no increase in anything with the 1:10, even with 525 gr. cast, but I would certainly recommend that twist with bullets over 500 gr. and subsonic. My 1:22 is not as accurate with any bullet at any speed as with the 1:14 and 1:18, and the 1:22 showed definite instability with 500 gr. bullets at 100 yards even though they were super sonic loads. That’s the only .458 barrel I have that does not impress me, and I have them from 6.750” to 28 13/16” long. That 16” 1:22 just does not cut it even though it’s on a super premium blank.
