    "Aliens" 35th anniversary

"Aliens" hit movie theaters on 18 July 1986, and I think I actually saw it the next day. It remains an example of how a sequel can live up to the original (although there are painfully few of them). Both "Alien" and "Aliens" were great movies, and the first arguably influenced sci-fi movies up to the present day. I think both films hold up reasonably well even today.

    Damn, I feel older already.

But they are too stupid to play it in theaters on its 35th...🤨

I'd love to see it on the huge-screen with big sound.

It had been so long since the first one that we rented the VHS at Blockbuster and watched it before we went to the theatre. Saw it on day 1. Technically we were all underage. Damn, no wonder I feel old.

Alien was a great movie! Aliens was arguably the best sequel ever (of any genre). I think it was better than the original, which was damn good. I can think of only 2 or maybe 3 other sequels that were as good or better than the original.

I disagree. Cliffhanger ending (seriously, I wait four years for a sequel and you won't even finish it?), muppet Yoda and some soap opera "I am your father" BS. It was the beginning of the end.

Given some of the high points like the Wampa encounter, Imperial walkers and a climatic Luke / Darth Vader light saber duel it should have been amazing. But Lucas was already showing signs that he was something of a "one trick pony" and couldn't keep it tight even though it had all the necessary elements to be the strongest Hollywood franchise ever...but that was also probably part of the problem.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

I agree. Star Wars changed everything on Sci-if, which isn’t apparent when you look back at ANH and ESB. I liked ESB, but it wasn’t as revolutionary as ANH. ANH is a space western at its core with some samurai influences- and there was always a back and for the between these two film genres. To me, ESB was the start of the whole complex-multipoint-flowing stories that Game of Thrones tried to kill with its over-arching complexity and badness. ANH was a simple story, ESB turned it on its head.

While they are supposedly making a sequel to “Starfighter”, it stands by itself- almost at the same kind of end point as ANH. Frankly, at this point, I wish ANH was a stand alone and we few that remember it wondered what might have been, with out having to sit through what actually happened.

Aliens was a movie for its time. Add in gear and fire power, but still make it scary. Alien and Aliens aren’t impressive for what they have in common, but rather that they are related, but totally different movies genres. Sci-fi to action-adventure.
The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.

    It's that simple.

In "Aliens", the scene with the robot sentry guns was either cut from the theatrical version or very abbreviated (IIRC).
