Surefire is very proud of their low zero shift and “internal venting”. Of, course, they were a flashlight company still when they designed (or did they borrow that from Ops Inc?) those baffles, so who knows. And, I’m willing to bet that low zero shift and reduced backpressure had higher priorities than some other aspects in the contest for contracts. Along with reduced flash.

Surefire baffles are just copies of Ops Inc baffles from the late 1980s, so is the reflex portion of them. Ported baffles go all the way back to at least 1910. Baffles don't have to all be symetrical to be the best for long range precision, just the first one.

One of these in Surefire and the other is Ops Inc: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...wsurehigh1.png
Previously did all design work at CGS Group, 2014-2024.

Yeah, Ops Inc. I have no idea why I said OSS.

Man...Ops Inc...now you are bringing back the memories. That's like Doc Dater before Gemtech.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

I ended up buying 2 Sandman S’s. Thanks for all the input.

The surefires have been good cans. Very accurate when put on a 223 bolt gun with no poi shift. I like the qd mount. I have never had one come loose.

They are just loud with or without the warcomp. (after I was told the warcomp was louder by someone who tests cans, I replaced it with a closed tine. Only difference I noticed was less soot on the barrel right behind the adapter)

I am going to put the surefire cans on my son’s 20 ar and a 16 inch hbar upper I have for shooting things at the camp.

The 2 sandmans will go on the short barreled uppers that are used on full auto.
