    It's an awesome story.

    My dad collected pictures from the Marine Corps Gazette, in which were a bunch of painting by Charles Waterhouse. He did one entitled 'Ripley at the bridge.' I still have those pics somewhere.

    If you want a good read pickup The Bridge at Dong Ha by John Grider Miller. Ripley was a man among men and it’s difficult to fathom what he did and how he did it. The aftermath and situation in South Vietnam in those waning days are discussed, too. Most of those advisors were on their own with very limited support from the U.S.
