It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
Chuck, we miss ya man.

Yeah but you gotta go to Du Monde is a rite of passage. You gotta eat there your fist trip. Bourbon is over rated and stinks. The aquarium is pretty cool. Commander’s Palace has amazing food and service. So does Antoine’s. So does Drago’s. The wife and I keep saying we are going to do the D-day museum just haven’t made time. If you get out of town go a little place called Manchac and eat at Middendorf’s. Famous for their thin sliced catfish. Avoid the voodoo scams in the Quarter. The Marriot Q&C New Orleans on Camp Street is a cool old hotel. So is The Pontchartrain Hotel. Both have nice bars and good food. I love NO (course I don’t live there, I live a few hours away and visit often) just gotta watch your ass and make sure you don’t venture off the “path”.

Acme Oyster House seafood gumbo, none better, I could OD on it.
If you go to Middendorf’s, they are closed on Monday-Tuesday (as a lot of places are closed on Monday’s in the city) and that would be a waste of a trip bc there is nothing else close by. I like Middendorf’s when I am on the boat and can dock there for lunch, but I don’t think I would drive there specifically to it to eat.

Good point on Middendorfs being closed Monday and Tuesday. I planned a trip wrong one time and missed eating lunch there. That will never happen again.
Also, Sucre’ for macaroons.

Disclosure: I am affiliated PRN with a tactical training center, but I speak only for myself. I have no idea what we sell, other than CLP and training. I receive no income from sale of hard goods.
There are 4 things in that area that might make it a day trip. Go on the kayak tour in the morning, go eat lunch at Middendorf’s, then go on the alligator tour on the other side of 51 so you can see what else was in the water you were just kayaking in. Then go south on 51 into LaPlace and eat at pier 51.
I'll second the aquarium. It's pretty nice. There used to be a ferry you could ride from there to the Audubon Zoo. WW2 museum is good. There used to be a tiny confederate Civil War museum not too far from the aquarium with all kinds of stuff in glass displays. Not sure if it's still there.
Avoid the street entertainers, they're hustlers. Do not approach, address, or especially give them money. Just think of them all as criminals. Head on a swivel.
Don't trust the NO police, even if you're a cop. There's corruption there like you wouldn't believe. Comic book level.
