I guess I could say I’m taking the holiday tomorrow (didn’t work today), or I could get 24 hours of pay for working 12… screw it, I’ll work just like I planned to.

In regards to the holiday, I have a black coworker who had zero clue about Juneteenth… someone had to explain it to him (sad part, the one who explained it to him was white… and same black coworker tried to label the white officer as a racist because he is a complete a****** and most of us don’t put up with his crap).

I just don’t see the need to make a holiday a Federal holiday… if it has significance to you, celebrate it. What about Easter? Jesus’ rose from the dead… a pinnacle of Christianity… doesn’t bother me one bit that it isn’t a Federal holiday. Even if it were, would be exactly zero difference in my view of it.

Now, if it is being made for people that actually feel it has significance for the change… no problem. I’ll support it 100%. But if it is being made a Federal holiday for people like that black coworker I mentioned earlier (I refuse to call him an officer, just because of his BS and the fact that he fuels the BLM stuff for his own benefit)… then I think it is disgusting.

I tend to agree, and it should be known as "Emancipation Day". I know I'll catch flak for this but "Juneteenth" sounds so friggin' stupid.....like you can't pick a specific day? Right up there with "Let me axe you a question".

However, I don't mind another summer holiday! Should have made it the third Monday in June or similar, kind of like MLK's "birthday".

There is no good reason to highlight slavery now, outside of a university history class about how the US was one of the first nations to ban it's practice.

Your response to the topic of slavery should be "shut up commie scum," not, "oh yeah, we're so, so, sorry about that." Get it?
While slavery is an abomination, I am not sorry for any-damn-thing I had nothing to do with, nor anyone you could say that to suffered from. I didn't own slaves (nor did my family.....one great-great-great GF fought on the Union side) and none of these blacks alive today were slaves. Learn about it, but GTF over it.

See... it's not enough to celebrate the end of slavery on Juneteenth (Saturday) oh no! Government workers should be paid to not come to work Friday or get premium pay.

"Agencies should direct such employees to not report to work on Friday -- unless the agency determines that their services are required. If employees are required to work during qualifying holiday hours, they will earn holiday premium pay," the US Office of Personnel Management announced Thursday in a memo.
Uh, that's how it works for Federal employees on any fixed holiday; Christmas, New Year's, 4th of July, and Veteran's Day. If it falls on a weekend then either Friday or Monday is the day off. Been that way forever. [think your mail delivery]

The ComDems will eventually push Juneteenth to replace July 4th, Independence Day. Remember, with the communists running the country their goal is to destroy all our traditions and history to replace it with theirs. In and of itself, June 19th is an honorable day to recognize. But it will be weaponized to further their agenda. The ComDems care about June 19th only as a way to further divide the country and ostracized anyone who does not follow their agenda. Watching that POS, racist, America hating Warnock smiling while standing behind Slow Joe as he signed the bill made my stomach turn.

Probably. But to avoid confusion and fuss they should just have called it Emancipation Day and moved on.

I don't see a problem with the other independence day. If we truly did "all men are created equal" on July 9 then we'd only have a single independence day, but we didn't. And quite honestly, June 19 is probably more significant than MLK day and we've already gone ahead and done that one.

I also don't see why anyone would get spun up over the other independence day. If all the roles were reversed and white slaves were freed in a white minority nation, we'd probably want to celebrate that even if race itself shouldn't be a huge issue. More white people probably do Cinco De Mayo than know about June 19 so I don't understand the conflict with the lone exception of a confusing name that shouldn't have incorporated the words "independence."

I mean, we already have a federal holiday on the day the Emancipation Proclamation came into effect.
