The House of Representatives has averaged 146.7 "legislative days" a year since 2001, according to records kept.   That's about one day of work every two and a half days. The Senate, on the other hand, was in session an average of 165 days a year over the same time period.  

Given the shocking amount of days they already don't work, one more won't amount to anything.

This is something to keep in mind next time they talk about all night sessions where nobody goes home. Congress is the most part time job I've ever heard of.

Wishing to believe Juneteenth was made a federal holiday for celebrating the end of slavery and remembering the sacrifices made by so many Union veterans is a good way to look at it, but the more I read the more I see the purpose is to institutionalize a reminder to black people that they are ex-slaves living in a word of White supremacy and oppression.

Juneteenth, a federally institutionalized reminder that America still sucks.

Bingo, this will basically turn into "hate white people day" and the BLM/antifa types will be given carte blanche to riot and burn every year.

I can get behind everyone celebrating the end of slavery in the United States. The idea that only "black" people should celebrate is laughable and ignores both the fact that all races had been enslaved in the U.S. and the fact that a huge number of "white" Americans have African DNA. The U.S. is a melting pot.

Yeahhhh.... so last year I really started getting into genealogy, and 'did' my DNA. My dad's paternal line I am solid: pure Finnish. His maternal line has been educational; my dad's parents give up all the kids to foster care when my dad, the oldest, was 10 or so.

Anyhoo, my mom's paternal side were among the first settlers in Virginia. Brought people to Jamestown, settled in Jamestown and tidewater, etc. My 7th GF was a child born to a native American (Nansemond) and an African man, adopted by the man she married and of whom took his last name (my mom's maiden name). My DNA reflects DNA only found in sub-Saharan Africa (specific, Western Bantu). So yeah, melting pot and all. The joke in my family is I am pasty white, blonde, and green eyes (my mom looked the part: dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair).

I am not a big fan of hyphenated Americans. Right off the bat it creates division. I can back a day to celebrate emancipation/freedom from slavery. But everyone should celebrate it.

They do work all the time...at fund raisers. It's like every wealthy family you know where the wife has a foundation. Single moms, pediatric cancer or whatever "if you don't support my foundation you hate children" cause it is, but funny how their walk a thon events are always in Hawaii and they are always staying at 5 star resorts. If you look close enough, soccer mom is paying herself 50% of collected donations to administer the foundation and awareness events look suspiciously like luxury vacations.

Either you're an American or you're not. If you're an American your roots are behind you--they help make you who you are, but they're not your defining trait because you have joined the Melting Pot. If not, renounce your citizenship and go the f--- back to whatever shithole your ancestors came from. Better yet, go apologize to those ancestors for squandering the great gift of a better life that they invested generations of blood, sweat and tears in trying to buy for your pathetic ungrateful ass.
