I've had very good luck, accuracy and seating wise by using Hornady's 68 grain #2278C with cannelure. Not to be confused with Hornady's 68 grain #2278 which is a completely different bullet, even though it's the exact same weight. See Note Below.

I bought several 1,000 of 2278C's @ 16 cents a piece. They are now running around 20 cents each. Still cheap enough for quality practice use.

Note: #2278C with cannelure OAL is 0.917" #2278 no cannelure OAL is 0.987

At this point I was wondering if something was wrong with me so I shot five of a Hornady 62 BTHP load, and the result was .46"

I'm beginning to think the 69 3GH wants a good kick in the pants to get going. I'm going to turn up the heat a little more on it.

    2.205 or 2.250?

This morning I took the 24" 1:7 223 Krieger rifle to the long range. Before I went further out, I shot 4 groups on paper at 100-

    Group 1 0.29"
    24.0 TAC, LC, CCI450, FCD, 2.260 OAL

    Group 2 0.75"
    24.3 TAC, LC, CCI450, FCD, 2.260 OAL
4 of the shots went into .46"

    Group 3 0.79"
    24.3 TAC, LC, CCI450, FCD, 2.260 OAL
    4 shots went into .42"

    Group 4 0.99"
    24.7 TAC, LC, CCI450, FCD, 2.260 OAL
This one saw more random impacts in the groups.

This is the second time that I have started with a clean, cold bore and the first group was the best of the day. Two different rifles.

After that I shot 3 shot groups on steel at 220, 330, 425, and 545 yards. All the groups looked to be sub MOA.

This range trip I brought the 22" Remage out and shot another 25 69 3GH on steel yesterday. Various distances between 150 and 545 at the local range. Wind was all over the place, full value 12 MPH and gusting up to 18, so it was really hard to tell what kind of accuracy I was getting. Even the mighty 77 SMK was getting blown around.

This load was 25.1 N540, LC brass, Fiocchi SRM, 2.250 OAL. Primers looked good at 75°F so I may increase powder a tenth or two, and try 2.270 OAL.

Man, I was chronoing 2 loads last Sunday. One was a TAC load for these 69 RMRs and the other was a 62 gr FMJ BT load using the reclaimed AAC Crap ammo powder. Two different loads of course, but the 62s shot sub MOA in my 5 round string, and the 69s were about 1.75 MOA.

Both had horrendous SDs in the 40s range, but the 62s from American Reloading were impressive on paper.

When I was whining about the 69's, Jake's guy had recommended 2230, TAC, and some other powder. I was unhappy until TAC (allegedly his favorite) became available. Still, it was 2min with Fed AR Match primers. A little more whining, and Jake was quoted as liking civvy primers with TAC and a shorter seating depth for the 69's. Again, he was right. With WSR primers and shorter seating depth, just over moa.

They had said there was an unsatisfactory lot out there, but my 2000 were not from that lot. Also, those 1st 2 thou had a sharp "rim" at the break from major diameter to the boattail. Received another thou the other day, and that ring wasn't there. Looked like everyone else's boattail. Prolly won't get to load/shoot these til spring..... And I still haven't shot those 1st RMR's past 100y.....

I need to crank up the TAC load I was testing. I started pretty low due to using those psycho CC1 41 primers. I want a RMR 69 load I can just crank out and fill an ammo can. I'm not obsessed with great accuracy, but decent accuracy and velocity is the goal. My horrible SDs are curious. Maybe as the load heats up they'll at least get into the mediocre 20s.

I blame myself for buying these CCI "nightmare in a primer" and AAC "nightmare in a piece of brass" parts and pieces ammo. And getting away from our house load that has shot lights out for 10 years. Most combos of H322/Wolf primers and any bullet. With this nonsense, one weak promising loads, next week we tweak and are taking guns home with BCG jammed in a SR-15 with lodged primers. No good deed...

Maybe we take them to a Phx homeless shelter and put others out of their misery.

I stepped away from testing the 69 RMR bullets for a minute but found that TAC performed pretty well. Around 24 grains was easy on the primers, even on an 80 degree day, with Lake City brass. TAC definitely flows nice through a Dillon measure.

My testing has moved to N133 and N540 as I found a guy who was getting rid of quite a bit of each for under $30/lb, and should give me more consistent ES/temp stability than TAC. N133 is pretty fast, so I am not expecting the velocity will be as good as TAC, more going for accuracy inside 600 yards.
