    RMR 69 gr OTMs

…..and neither of those books use the RMR bullets. They’re certainly a good start. If dmd08 isn’t seeing any pressure signs, I’d say he can definitely increase his charges some.

I substituted Hornady and Sierra HPBTs with your powder charges in QuickLOAD, and the velocities are significantly slower than what you’re seeing. Maybe these bullets are really efficient, compared to SMKs and Hornady 68s.

This week, I’m going to load up some test ammo, with H322, 8208 XBR, or BL-C(2), to find the max charge weight. I will use Winchester commercial brass and CCi #41s.

I did a 3 powder shoot out a few weeks back with 4064, IMR3031, and H322. 4064 showed pressure signs without the best velocity. It was starting to swipe a little at like 2854 FPS.

H322 was the fastest at just under 2900 FPS in the 20" bolt gun.

We're down to our last pound of XBR, so I didn't even test it. We have many pounds of H322, and set up a load that calibrates to our ACOGs fairly well. 23.1+/- grains with the current lot of powder.

When I bought the SMP735, the guy told me that it loaded pretty close to H322 and I have settled on 23.0 grains. I am saving the H322 for when the powder situation gets less bleak or I absolutely need it.

Over the weekend I was out of town and had the opportunity to shoot at a 400 yard range. With that in mind, I brought my 16" SPS Tactical which has a slower 1:9 twist. I tried 23.0 behind the 69 RMR and I loaded some 55 Hornady soft points. Both shot well at 400, or at least well enough to hit the 3 MOA steel they had setup at that distance. The 69 RMR had a much nicer report off the steel.

Yeah. I mean... I could realistically switch 100% to H322 for everything .223 and be fine. It just makes me feel better to have eggs in other baskets too.

I find it so much easier to stick with one powder for all the .223 loads I use. H335 it is.

I started out that way. I just wanted to run TAC forever. I keep a pound of H335 and a few pounds of TAC for reference only. I've since gone 100% extruded powders for all rifle calibers.

Damniy, I meant .223, not .224. Details matter! HA!

Yeah I've never actually tried an extruded powder, always heard they meter poorly, so never bothered. I have heard TAC is awesome for heavier bullets, been tempted. My go-to for heavier was BLC-2, but I've had such good results with H335 and Hornady's 75gr BTHP, (as well as with my 62 and 55gr loads) I've just stuck with it for everything.

Some meter poorly. But the Benchrest powders you'll see a lot of guys use here meter good. (H322 and XBR most commonly)

I just run them on my Dillon and get great ammo.

    Yeah.

Using Accurate powder data for 5.56.

    Last week I loaded 10 rounds @ 23.9, 23.7, 23.4, 23.1, 22.8.

Couldn’t get velocity data using my poor man’s magnetospeed. Shooting out of an 18” rifle .223 Wylde chambered BA SPR barrel, 2.5-10 trijicon credo scope @ 10x. Atlas bipod, o rear bag. Most groups hovered around 2”, with the 23.7 shooting closer to 1.5” without called flyers.

For reference, I’m not much of a rifle shooter. I can usually manage 1.5” groups with 77 gr SMK.
