    Lightest, smallest, Flash/Brake combo???

Got my SAIGA FE converted, and now have the 24X 1.5 mm threads. What brake works, reduces flash, AND does well on noise (linear)? Yes, I want it all. Thanks.

To the best of my experience brakes are noise enhancers unless they are the first chamber of an add on suppressor.

The FN FAL/FNC style flash/brake probably gives the best performance of any combo, but it certainly isn't quiet.

    Thanks.

I am liking (from what I read) the Krebs 4 prong, but for now it is non existent. They have a three prong that is also a brake of sorts, but needs exact positioning - maybe not a problem with the 24mm barrel shroud. If DA gets their SHORT gunfighter FH out that may be the ticket - seems to be like a Glock. Does all good enough.

Egad. Well, the original Russian '74 muzzle break does cut down on flash compared to a bare muzzle. They weigh about 4 oz, which is roughly what any of the suppressor attachment flash hiders weigh.

I'm not aware of any testing of 24mm muzzle devices, unfortunately. If you just need less flash than a bare muzzle, the Russian '74 type or anything with an expansion chamber should work.

Low flash powder helps a lot with a chambered brake, IIRC. I remember noticing a huge difference between Wolf .223 (no flash suppressant) and Q3131A (flash suppressant) shooting a night match with a 5.56 AK that used a Russian type '74 brake. The muzzle flash from the Wolf was bright enough to affect my night adjusted vision.

This is 7.62 and so its still a mess with bad powder. I have a '74, and did not understand how limited 24mm was till I started to search. In a sense its a real disadvantage in the system. The DA short fighter brake in 24 mm may be the ticket. OOS now.

Have you considered abandoning the brake function entirely? If you're dealing with flashy powder, you might need a dedicated flash hider to avoid blinding yourself at night.

I'm also curious why you want a brake function. 7.62x39 isn't usually a problem to control. It would be a lot of weight, but take a look at Dead Air's Wolverine suppressor.

That's a really good point. If you want reduction of recoil, flash, and noise, you're describing a suppressor. A can would be perfect if you don't mind NFA.

The Wolverine is a plug and play solution that's built like a tank and made by a great company, but I'd try taping a 25oz weight to the front of your rifle and doing some dry drills before you consider it. I don't care how much ya bench or how much Testosteroid 5000 you suck down, 25oz on the muzzle end will be detrimental to your accurate performance when unsupported.

I know you don't want to hear this after going to lengths to get a proper 24mm Russian front end, but I ended up getting my 5.56 AK's muzzle threaded for 1/2x28 to run a lighter, quieter can.

For a non NFA solution, consider this flash hider.

Yeah, I put one on the front of a Draco SBR, you definitely know it's there.
