    Negative experience with CHPWS

I recently had a dissapointing experience with both CHPWS and it's owner, Buck Holly, and thought I'd give you guys a heads up.

My little brother bought a P320 X Carry for his fiancee with the weird rear sight plate. I directed him to CHPWS as I'd heard nothing but rave reviews, and he bought their integrated rear sight plate. He then had the slide cerakoted by a local gunsmith in purple as that is what his fiancee wanted (it was rather ugly). The smith ended up stripping the screws trying to get the optic on/off, and then the plate got destroyed in the removal. *None of this was CHPWS' fault*.

I contacted CHPWS about buying a new plate for him. I wanted to handle this for my brother as he is not a gun guy. The owner, Buck, immediately reached out to me and told me was going to take care of us, promising that he'd machine a new plate to replace the broken one, sandblast the ugly purple off, and cerakote it black, all for $125. I was blown away by this generosity, as he literally owed us nothing. I promptly mailed the slide to CHWPS.

A week later, I received a call from them, telling me I only owed then $25 and that the work was complete. I argued repeatedly, telling them I wanted to pay the $125, but they insisted that they wanted to do it for $25 instead. Again, I was absolutely blown away. I went to work and sang CHPWS' praises to anyone who would listen.

A week after that, I received the slide in the mail. The slide had not been sand blasted or cerakoted, and the new rear plate did not have an integrated rear sight (which is required for this slide as there is not enough room to mill a dovetail). I figured there was a mixup somewhere, so I reached out to CHPWS, explaining the situation.

I received a reply from Beau, telling me to send it back for cerakote. I replied, asking about the rear sight plate and received no response. Buck then emailed me, and asked me which slide I was referring to. I informed him it was the purple slide, and the only response he could muster was:

OMG - The EGG PLANT SLIDE! That thing was amaze balls.
Instead of addressing the issue, that was the reply I received from the owner of the company. I was irritated, but I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, so I replied:

    Buck,

If you guys don't want to do the work and Cerakote it please let me know, I can try to find someone else if that's what has to happen.

There is no dovetail on this particular slide to accept a rear sight, and this new plate does not have a built in sight like the original plate did.

When we talked originally, you graciously offered to Cerakote the slide, and make a new plate for $125. At this point, I've already spent the 15 to ship it, and the 25 for return shipping. Would you, at this point, recommend I just send it somewhere else for Cerakote and see if they can add a rear dovetail?

I'm not trying to be difficult or pushy, and if it comes off that way I apologize. I'm just confused, as half of the work we talked about wasnt done, and the only responses I've gotten from anybody now have been laughing about the slide color or a one line response from Beau asking if I just wanted to send it in for Cerakote without answering any of my questions.
Buck never again replied to me. Instead, Beau sent the following a week ago:

@will - Please get in touch with Grant about this
And that was the last I heard from Buck at CHPWS. I reached out, and was told by Austin that my issue would be addressed by Buck, but he has ghosted me ever since. My final email to Buck was sent yesterday:

    Buck,

I wanted to reach out to you directly and avoid any more of this. I hate to sound like a jilted lover, but I've never really experienced customer service this lacking before. I've always held CHPWS in high regard, which is why I went with you guys in the first place. None of the bad gunsmithing that happened to this pistol was your fault, so when you told me you'd fix it all for $125, I was blown away. I sang your praises to every officer at my agency that would listen, and as a firearms instructor, I talked to my Glock MOS carriers about upgrading to your plate.

When I got the call from the lady at your office, I was yet again blown away that all I was being charged was $25. I argued with her many times, begging her to let me pay the $125, as I did not want your extreme generosity to go unpaid. Little did I know, the work we agreed upon was not done.

When I received the slide, I was extremely disappointed. But, I thought it must have been a misunderstanding and reached out to you guys for help. The only answers I received was a flippant response from Beau asking if I wanted to send it back in without actually addressing anything, and then your response of "OMG that was amazeballs". I couldn't believe how rapidly my experience was deteriorating. Finally, you tasked Will with getting a hold of me. 4 days later, no response from Will. Today, Austin tells me he'll send this to you, again no response. I have NO DOUBT that you are insanely busy, and I am a customer that is costing you money, so I understand that I am not your first priority.

My biggest issue here is that we are men of our word. You and I are both former Marines, so our word should mean even more. I would not have thought negatively of you if you had been upfront in the beginning and told me that you did not have any intention of helping me. You owed me absolutely nothing. But to tell me that you were going to fix this, have me send the slide to you, not do the work, and then treat me like garbage afterwards is unacceptable.

I have no doubt that CHPWS is a top flite machining company, and I am sure I am probably one of the few customers with a bad taste in my mouth, but I certainly couldn't describe this experience as "amazeballs". I am so disappointed, because I wanted to be "boomsquad" for life. Instead, I cannot justify being your customer again, nor could I justify sending any of my guys your way. Again, you owed me nothing in the beginning, but when you gave me your word, you owed me your word.

I hope for continued success for both you and CHPWS. I don't hate you, and I'm happy to discuss this with you if you ever want to talk about it.
So, at this point, I spent $40 in shipping to send this slide to CHPWS for a week, only to have them not hold true to their agreement, and then completely ignore me. I am now sending this slide to Dynamic Weapon Solutions to have it cerakoted, but this slide will likely never have an optic on it as I just can't bring myself to go through CHPWS for anything again. I am not trying to sound entitled with this, I just want to warn people that CHWPS may not be a company that honors it's own word, and to proceed with caution.

I had a highly regarded vendor cut my VP9 slide for an RMR. He first sent me the wrong slide back (which I shipped back on my dime), then he sent my slide missing all the internals. I ended up doing a partial chargeback, to which he agreed.

I think these folks that do this type of work are gearheads and engineers that are great at solving problems with products but are completely disorganized and lousy at solving problems with people. CHPWS is making all the optics plates for the new Walther PDP guns, so they're probably doubly messed up right now.

I've got no dog in the fight, since they do not make any product that I would be able to use, but it's certainly not a good look.

Perhaps they're good machinists that just let one slip, but they don't seem to be the greatest businesspeople.

Wow. That explains a lot of what is going on. At least I was spared the nasty responses from Buck, though after reading that thread, I am sure I have one coming to me eventually.

After reading the on going thread on the Hide, this post, and many other similar experiences shared on other sites, I can confidently say that I will never do business with Buck or CHPWS.

I have a buddy who had a hellacious time getting a sig plate from them. Months of run around and no response then more run around then wrong product shipped.

They have out run they’re capabilities.
AQ planned for years and sent their A team to carry out the attacks, and on Flight 93 they were thwarted by a pick-up team made up of United Frequent Fliers. Many people look at 9/11 and wonder how we can stop an enemy like that. I look at FL93 and wonder, "How can we lose?". -- FromMyColdDeadHand

I am really sorry to hear that. Thank you for the cautionary tale. I guess we should be supporting FCD.
