New King Cobra still running great.

Sometimes I think I'm a bit hard on it. I ran a good bit of medium .357 from it and more hot .38's. All of it 158 gr though, no hot / light stuff.

I'm bad at tracking ammo count. I'm gonna guess about 1500 rds through it.

I've thought getting a bigger revolver to practice with. I've considered a 3 or 4 in new Python, 4 in new Anaconda (new this year, not yet available) or, highest on the list, a 3 in round-butt 686+. (7-shot)

There are very few concealable holsters for Pythons and L-frames. Disappointing.

I'm interested in the Anaconda because i can load it from mild to wild and it's RDS ready. But Pythons and Anaconda's are $1400-$1500, too. The King Cobra is the better value at about $850.

Or I can just enjoy the Colt King Cobra I've got and take it easy with the hotter ammo. It's not just hard on the gun but my hands and wrists, too.

I'm kinda over .327 mag. There are a couple good .327 loads but they will surely split my ears shouldi ever have fire without ear pro. (45k psi! And it sounds like it) The best ones, the 100 and 115 gr Gold Dots, aren't available and stuck in the chambers anyway.

So if I carry mine it has .32 mags in it. .32 mag from a snub is .380 performance. Best bet is a solid 100 gr bullet at 1000 fps. Any hollow point that expands will underpenatrate. Meh.

Wife loves hers. Great gun for a non-enthusiest to get good with. (And she is) Great gun for a person with strength / pain issues, too. .32 S&W Long ammo plus a mild DA trigger = easy, fun practice. .32 Long and Mag are easy and kinda fun to reload, too.

I'm willing to make my own .327 carry ammo, but nobody has sold brass in a long time. .327 fed mag is extremely unpopular.

It sucks how .327 got abandoned by both the shooting public and the manufacturers. I’m not surprised….revolvers are largely the territory of the traditionalist that is unlikely to see anything less than .357” diameter as anything but a small game gun, and people that are accepting of new, smaller bore cartridges are also accepting of plastic autoloaders that already hold more than 5. Still, I’d love to have one or two, especially the factory ported Smiff, I think 632 Carry Comp, and maybe the plainer J-frame or a LCR. Maybe even a GP100 or longer SP101 to round things out.

You mentioned stuck cases….are they splitting, too? I was shooting a friend’s Ruger .327 with American Eagle ammo, IIRC, and every single case split, so they weren’t sticking, but not falling out on a casual, half-assed ejector push, either. Seemed odd, considering that Ruger and Federal should really have that cartridge figured out, given that they are the defacto standard combo for that cartridge.

No, the CCI Gold Dots from my LCR .327 6-shooter didn't split.

But I had to use the edge of a wooden bench to get them out. It retrospect I should have used my thick brass rod I have just for this purpose. (Removng stuck cases or a squib bullet) But fortunately I didn't bend the ejector rod.

.32 caliber revolvers have always been more a niche diameter when compared to .38 in the same platform. For me, the advantage would be another round in a very small gun like a J-frame.

    I've got a 686+ coming now.

3 inch, round butt, .357 7-shooter, adj. sights.

Will be a slightly better range gun than the the King Cobra. Carryable, but we'll see.

Hopefully it passes inspection. S&W puts out some turds sometimes.

I understand the trigger will wear in, and it won't be near as good as the Colt trigger, but hopefully it's usable as-is. I'm willing to lighten it up if necessary. Even to the point of needing Federal-only primers.

Only Smiff revolver that I own has a crooked front sight, a la Century AK.

Just like Century AKs, its hard to recommend one when Ruger, Colt, CHARTER, AND TAURUS, seem to have figured out how to screw in a ****ing bbl.

I wanted a bigger .357 to shoot and even though I love the Colt trigger I went with a S&W 686 Plus 3 inch.

7 shots, same size, $400 less.

I refused it because the cylinder wouldn't unlatch. $975 name-brand revolver. Been making them for 150 years.

The distributor I ordered it from says they'll send another one.

Big Snubby…Dan Wesson 715 357 magnum 2.5” vented heavy barrel. Can shoot all day with full power rounds.

Or when I’m looking to carry light…Smith & Wesson model 38 airweight.

Mine was a dandy & I carried it for years. Wish I still had it.
You know when it loaded with magnums, but yes I've been happy with mine.

    Just wanted to update.

The 2nd revolver (new 3-in 686 Plus) sent to me was fine and shoots great.

Trigger is a little heavy but pretty smooth and seems short. (talking DA here) But the trigger is far from a new Colt. Even with the heaviness I shoot it very well.

    I've loaded and fired full-power 125's (chrono'd 1325 fps) through 180's (chrono'd 1100 fps) with no issues.

I did have to replace the pretty wood grips it came with. They were awful. Grooves were way off. Got Hogue "boot grip" style and they're excellent. Bigger grips would handle better but if I ever decided to carry it I'd want the boot grips.

It does seem to shoot more accurately with 158-180 bullets.
