    SIG's trademarks

I see that SIG has trademarked the designations "M17" and "M18". Always wondered how a company could trademark a US government designation, but I guess that's doable. Raytheon trademarked the term "Paveway" which is a name applied to laser-guided bombs since the Vietnam War.

Colt tried to trademark "M4" but (IIRC) lost out in a lawsuit brought by Bushmaster.

I'm guessing that SIG can trademark M17 and M18 because they're products unique to SIG?

Boeing, Lockheed and Northrop Grumman have all slapped trademarks on all their old WWII birds, and most planes since even the ones in active service. IP law has changed dramatically just in my 40 years...
