Haitian President Assassinated

I don’t know much about that country, or the current political situation, but I imagine it is the same as ever- horribly corrupt and utterly incapable of changing on its own. What really grabbed my attention is the description of the assassins. They are described as commandoes posing as DEA agents, and were heard speaking Spanish and English with American accents. I know Haiti is a cesspool, so a coup would not surprise me, but for a team of foreigners to take out the president out raises some questions. I doubt these were US gov agents acting on behalf of the US. Are PMCs capable of this level of coordination? What level of manhunt will the various world governments support? I imagine assassinating the head of state of any country disrupts the balance of power in the region- how will the current admin handle this?

Blame Trump. These guys were obviously alt right white supremacists Trump lovers. I'm surprised they all weren't were MAGA hats.

Love how Haiti wants to blame it's political infighting on "mercenaries." They have what is pretty much a civil war going on.

This guy also opposed the rest of the gov selling out and biting the hook on a Chinese debt-trap. I wouldn't rule out PMC's with Chinese money behind 'em...

If it was mercs, they are idiots for taking the job. The only way that works out for the client is if the contractors die in very short order. No tales to tell.

It's been done countless times though. Going back at least as far as the Roman empire and very early feudal Japan. Oddly enough they always seem to find willing idiots.

Looks like some of then have been killed by local police, others have been arrested. Not sure if any got away. The puppet masters are cutting the strings and cleaning up the trail, huh? (I’m having trouble linking articles right now)

Reports claiming he was tortured too. Why? That's not a normal assassination to remove a leader for political reasons, that's a message being sent. Smells like he got on the wrong side of some cartel as that's their MO. Where were his guards? Killed or rang off or paid to open the doors? The FBI is being sent to investigate, I guess at the request of the Haiti’s interim prime minister? Due to 2 US citizens being involved?

At least four American veterans were among a group of eight men arrested by police in Haiti earlier this week for allegedly driving without license plates and possessing an arsenal of weaponry and tactical gear.

Police in Port-au-Prince arrested five Americans, two Serbians, and one Haitian man at a police checkpoint on Sunday, according to The Miami-Herald. The men reportedly told police they were on a “government mission” but did not specify for which government, according to The Herald.
They also told police that “their boss was going to call their boss,” implying that someone high in Haiti's government would vouch for them and secure their release, Herald reporter Jacqueline Charles told NPR.

What they were actually doing or who they were potentially working for remains unclear. A State Department spokesperson told Task & Purpose they were aware that Haitian police arrested a “group of individuals, including some U.S. citizens,” but declined to answer whether the men were employed by or operating under contract with the U.S. government.

“When U.S. citizens are arrested overseas we seek consular access as soon as possible and provide appropriate consular assistance as provided by the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations,” the spokesperson said. “Due to privacy considerations, we are unable to comment further.”
