US Navy is too woke for war

Funny how if you want real news about the US you have to look overseas.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...port-says.html

"A scathing new report commissioned by members of Congress has claimed that the Navy's surface warfare forces have systemic training and leadership issues, including a focus on diversity that overshadows basic readiness skills.

The report prepared by Marine Lt. Gen. Robert Schmidle and Rear Adm. Mark Montgomery, both retired, came in response to recent Naval disasters, including the burning of the USS Bonhomme Richard in San Diego, two collisions involving Navy ships in the Pacific and the surrender of two small craft to Iran.

The report found that a staggering 94 percent of the subjects believed the recent Naval disasters were 'part of a broader problem in Navy culture or leadership.'

'I guarantee you every unit in the Navy is up to speed on their diversity training. I'm sorry that I can't say the same of their ship handling training,' said one recently retired senior enlisted leader."

Saw that today. I really really think that the U.S. Navy, in the next decade, is gonna be in a high-tech shootout with another Asian adversary (one country in particular ) and it has the possibility of meeting or exceeding WWII naval casualties. They better get their shit together.

    Oh, where to begin...

The Navy embraces a zero-defect, rat-on-your-shipmates culture while focusing on diversity and human "soft" skills, while placing over importance on things like 'human trafficking' over warfighting. It's a schizophrenic organization with broken leadership.

Didn't we used to practice warfighting by taking on instances of human trafficking and the like directly?

It's almost a shame drugs are coming up through Mexico pretty exclusively. We missed big opportunities to conduct ops in the gulf and bahama corridor against legit bad guys. We could still do scout / sniper mule hunts in border states but most of the big shipments are boxed in with legit deliveries of cars and tvs.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

Good thing the good general and admiral were retired or they probably would have been keel hauled by the DOD.

Even in retirement they can still be recalled to duty... the only way an officer gets out of UCMJ is complete resignation IIRC.
You really have to ask why Conservatives have guns? Because Liberals block freeways, burn cities, throw Molotov cocktails, loot, turn over cop cars, and think this behavior is Socially Acceptable.

I joined in 1998, and foundation for wokeness was already rolling out.

At one point I considering making it my career. After 2 years I knew it was not a career path.

I left 10.5 years to day later, having passed up several commissioning opportunities as well as skipping my part in submitting my credentials for promotion to E-7 twice.

Of the myriad reasons to leave, it boiled down to a culture of micromanaged yes men followership vice true leadership, the above mentioned zero defect mentality and the shameful coddling the weak.

One anecdote: an E-2 shouted he was coming down a ladder, as he was supposed to do. An E-7 was at the base but didn’t hear. The E-2 repeated himself, louder and added, “move or Ima kick your mouth”. When he reached the base, a fellow E-6 and I promptly posted this sailor and made it abundantly clear, without profanity or improper mannerisms, that at no time does one ever threaten a shipmate, and disrespecting a senior NCO is absolutely unacceptable. The young man fled the scene and filed an EO complaint, cuz racists, and the two us were counseled for our insensitivity and publicly reprimanded.

Once upon a time, the sub fleet was the epitome of competence and crew cohesiveness. I caught the wave of change just as it was gaining momentum. It got worse year by year. I benefitted from being trained by the Cold War sailors and managed to finish my time young enough to be employable across multiple industries with an advanced technical skillset. By the time I left, the crew was disenfranchised, the senior enlisted were berating one another in front of the crew and the junior officers were turning down fast rides to command in lieu of business school and Wall Street pre-2008 financial crisis. Very few talented men stayed; most career sailors by the time I left were prototypes of the current unemployment benefits collectors- do the absolute minimum, and never skip the opportunity to milk the system. I know that defines the military in general, but the depths to which it sank were new, untenable lows. Go woke, go broke is real. I had serious concerns for the fleet to operate at a basic level of navigation. A few fairly recent high profile collisions (a thread or two here about these) support my claim.
