I got out of the Marines in 2019. Was an officer and finished as an instructor and spent some time in an Army base. On a deployment in 2017 aboard a navy ship , I saw sailors refuse to standing at attention for the national anthem, blacks get a pass for the sort of thing we would crucify any Marine (white black or polka dot) for.... I saw female sailors get into trouble at liberty ports that would be an international incident if they were Marines, yet the whole thing just happened to disappear because senior navy enlisted took care of them and senior navy officers were totally incompetent.

Its a joke. I cant even imagine the current world... I keep up with my contemporaries, most of whom are just trying to fly under the radar and get out...I was lucky in that I didnt give a shit about being promoted or good ratings and called a spade a spade...yet I got every billet and accolade I sought so clearly doing your job and being a competent person mattered...

Now you've got a total cultural shift ... and I have no idea how to advocate military service anymore.

Poke in the nose is the "we get LUCKY and get off easy" scenario. Pearl Harbor 2.0, here we come...

I placed in the top 98% and ranked first time up without the need for additional points. I was a very small population of individuals in my sub specialty of my rate: I was awarded with commendations to that effect. I was told by the personnel command I was in the top handful of sailors in my field. They offered me a great deal of perks and billet choices on my last enlistment, it did not outweigh the double standards. Im glad I left and obtained several degrees. I will always love the Navy but I hate the racist politics embedded in it. Instead of being able to professionally develop a junior sailor, affirmative action would hide and shelter them behind the guise of racism. All a person of color had to do is cry wolf and they were protected from personal growth. Not my Navy.

LOL, you weren't a HM, were you? Perpetually overmanned and so hard to advance.

But you are right, the quota system was alive and well (when I was in). Seems to still be the case.

No but God bless you. One of my best friends was an HM he served over 23 years and was diagnosed with stage four before he retired, he traveled the world his last handful of years. He spent his last few years visiting my wife and I while finishing a med retirement from a Marine command: it was incredibly sad to see the cancer take him. F-cancer! They have personnel shortages here and there but my field and specialty is small and requires significant time and investments to develop candidates. If you come in on a Democrat president, they defund everything and run the DOD as a skeleton crew: Clinton and Obama did this. I am sure Biden will also. They deploy more asymmetrical war-fighters covertly and get more killed versus their conservative counterparts who typically deploy larger numbers to deal with the problem. Trump for example swiftly destroyed ISIS: God bless Trump and those who got rid of those slimy cowards.

Human trafficking like slavery or human trafficking like busting the asian whorehouse on the interstate exits?

Both can be categorized into that definition. We know people are sold, kidnapped, and forces into work, and prostitution. Slavery would be the definition, but sex workers often get hyped as trafficked persons because often cases runaways and young people are sold in their home nation and end up stuck in brothels.

We lack the leadership necessary to be effective in the first stages, the will to win, and the industrial might to hang in for a longer conflict once ineffective leaders would hopefully be replaced.

Our only hope if we see an invasion of the mainland United States is a war of attrition on invading enemy forces through effective unconventional warfare. Even that is not a sure bet because a large part of the population has no spine at all, and our most likely enemy has zero concerns about extermination of any and all people in areas of resistance.
I’m not completely convinced the next big war against the US will be conventional/invasion style warfare. Despite recent attacks on the second amendment, we probably still have one of the most heavily armed civilian populations. Unless they plan on colonizing, I don’t think there would be much to gain, and despite what Joe thinks, even without F-15’s and nukes our citizens pose a formidable challenge. What I foresee in the near future would more likely be economic war with China and cyber war with Russia. Imagine constant cyber ransom attacks on critical infrastructure shutting down healthcare, utilities, communication, and banking, then coupled with a dried up supply of all things made in China or some type of devaluation of the dollar causing hyper-inflation, all while we engage in a home-grown civil war between Democrats/Republicans, BLM/“white privileged racists”, vaccinated/unvaccinated, federal government/citizens (take your pick).
