Streamlight TLR-1 HL modded to fit USP full size

I posted this over on an HK forum and thought some of yall might be interested too, please forgive my copy and paste!

I don't like the middle man mounts for the USP and my UTLs are pretty weak! So a TLR1, fourish hours, and an idea later. It seemed to work out pretty well. It needs some refinement, some flat head hardware and the light body needs to be moved back .060" or so, but I think its a pretty good proof of concept. I dont see any reason I could not do the same to an X300 but I felt less bad cutting on the TRL. Tho as well as this seems to have worked the x300 might be next in to the milling machine! The fit is damn near lego tight on my AC USP 45. I'll likely need to loosen that up a little to fit all my USPs but I can do that on the Mk2.

    Looks good.

I frequently thought I'd love to have a mill. The realization that it would cost me a fortune has prevented it- sort of like reloading ammo. ( - :

I have done this with a Dremel by just taking off existing light rail to fit, but much uglier! I looked at an X300U but I think the shape of the rails don't lend themselves to the same sort of mod that works for the TLR1.

Of course, making whole new rails would work for any light

    Nice work!

I just use a GG&G adapter so I can mount any 1913 keyed WML on it. Some people claim they've had their adapters loosen, but I use blue loktite and have yet to have one come loose. Finding a holster that will work is difficult / borderline impossible.

I make parts all day! Some times I forgot I can make them for myself. Tho I have gotten so use to it I'm not sure I could live without a mill now but I would hate to have to buy one! I have been meaning to do this for a pretty long time, just kept getting put on the maybe next time list. With the modlite pl350 coming out, I was looking at it thinking it would be pretty easy to mod to fit the USP, but thats a pretty expensive light to experiment on also it seems they might be having some teething issues. Still that got it back in my head and I had the TRL 1 so in to the mill it went. I just never really liked the looked of the extra part to mount a light to, but now I have made something that is likely impossible to find a holster for, maybe one of the floodlight holsters would work. Im gonna have to look in to that. Just the small amount of playing with this I have some this is so much better than the UTLs I think those were like 60 lum max. Also maybe roll my own holster but thats another can of worms!

This is a rad idea. I love the idea of being able to use a modern light, directly fitted to the USP. Keep us posted in the event you'd be willing to do the mod as a service; i would absolutely be in for one because sadly my UTL has a broken battery contact.

That’s so awesome! Looks great and practical too! Cmon HK or any other handgun manufacturer to upgrade and in the future standardize on the 1913 Pic Rail for frames?

My UTLs still work but man compared to these new lights its like a candle! I do wish HK would make an updated USP with 1913 rails and steel mags and an optics cut! I have a VP9 tac OR and an HK45 tac and I still like the USP better. I had some open machine time so I did a Mod 1. I thinned out the rear of the rails and added some chamfers. I tried using BC aluminum black on it with the same results I always get. It sort of worked, but it did blacked it up. I think it feels better now, the thicker real of the rail was annoying where I index my trigger finger. I already see a few more tweaks for the Mod 2s. I might see if I can figure out some fixturing to make it easier. Holding the light body is not hard but its walls are very thin, I ended you using gauge blocks to make sure I did not crush it. If figure out a way to do it cost effectively Ill let yall know.
