Question about front sight base on an SP1

I'm looking at a Colt SP1 Rifle (20") with serial number 1110xx probably built in late 1979 and it looks great except that the front sight base has no markings on it. The barrel is marked C MP CHROME BORE and the upper receiver is marked C M . My question is were all factory Colt front sight bases marked with a raised C built into them? Thanks in advance.

Seen many Colts FSB without C over the years.

By the late 70's Colt had kinda of standardized on parts for the SP1. The FSB not having the raised C would be correct for 1979.

Excellent question. I need to go check mine and affirm the date of build.

Does anyone know when Colt started using the handguards with the drain formed on the inner sheet metal heat shields?
