I Think It's Time For Olympic Dodgeball...

I really do feel like I'm watching Espn 8 - The Ocho.

So seriously Olympic skateboarding and surfing. Have we come this far? Watched a documentary about the 84 games and competitors in the Decathlon. How absurd that anyone should have a gold medal of equal standing for skateboarding.

Why not just have Olympic moonwalking while we are at it if we are going to confer upon pop fads an Olympic status.

    While we are at it.

Water polo, synchronized anything, but especially synchronized diving, rhythmic gymnastics (nobody should get a gold medal for spinning a ribbon) and too many others to name.

Also we have professional basketball, why is their Olympic basketball? I thought the entire point was non professional athletics.

And Olympic Tae Kwon Do sucks. Olympic rules do not allow punching to the face so competitors are encouraged to engage in dramatic kicking for exciting events. Spin kicks are worth more than regular kicks to make it even more dynamic. But what actually happens is two retards with their hands hanging by their sides, because god knows they don't have to block a punch...ever...bouncing up and down and throwing out slappy kicks that are nearly devoid of skill let alone power. I'm a martial artists and I can't watch this BS, just end it already...it was a bad idea.

Olympic Judo sometimes offers moments of interest that tend to last 1-2 seconds in a given 5 minute match that is two guys setting, looking for advantage and resetting. I hate to admit it, WWF wrestling is probably more interesting to look at.

Holding out hope for Olympic Karate (both kata and kumite divisions). Organizations from the AAU to the WKA have tried to organize and regulate karate with little to no success internationally. No set standards for rank, style or even ability exist. One flavor of karate is as different from another as there are nations on the earth that differ from one another.

The World Karate Federation exists and will hopefully serve as a standard, but the WKF tends to be very much a Japan thing and not as international as the name suggests.

So kumite could be interesting or another disaster. Ironically international kata competitions have managed to hold the bar high so maybe.

An example of excellent kata can be seen here by Rika Usami.

So all things considered, bring on the Dodgeball.

I mean, imagine my disappointment years ago when I had access to all channels airing all events in full (not just 'last 10-20 minutes' of an event like NBC's awful coverage of anything but swimming and gymnastics), and FINALLY got to watch the "rifle" shooting comp.
Here I was, expecting top-tier shooters from all over the world lined up on the thousand-yard line with a variety of high powered rifles... but it was BB guns instead.
Needless to say, my disappointment was immeasurable, and my day was ruined.

Personally I say they also add a robust game of Shuffleboard in here and there as well.

It's pretty clear that, outside of the 'classic' events (swim, gymnast, etc) any olympic variation of other sports is somewhat lame and dumbed down/over-simplified. I don't even bother watching stuff like skateboarding...

I would definitely watch the dodgeball event.

Tried to watch tae Kwon do with son. Had to turn it off after about a minute, it was that bad.

This is probably the least interested in the Olympics I've ever been. What typically is a time for national pride and celebration of the individual and team accomplishments has turned into an utter disaster.

From the purple haired Peter Pan casting reject blatantly disrespecting the very country that boosted her to international fame to women having to compete against biological men, I'm pretty much done with it.

    Same!

I noticed that there's not even commercials for it!! I guess if you can't get a big name company to advertise it's not worth cheering on your country!

I remember the Olympics was one of the few times we actually made a point to not go outside so we could watch it. I guess we got to enjoy the real thing.

Most point based matches suck. Attacks and strikes have almost zero power and are all off balance just to get a touch in. Stupid.

Hey, bring back Pankration while we're at it...that will draw the crowd.

Wrestling is out, weightlifting is on the chopping block. They have talked about dropping boxing or making it more stylized like the TKD. Track and field events get basically zero play outside of sprints and hurdles. But Dressage has gotta stay?.

I dig some of the X-games stuff, but not sure about making it Olympic. Though I suppose a lot of the winter Olympic stuff was extreme sport in its day. Skeleton still is, yikes.

So yeah, F it. Bring on the dodgeball!

My kids have been watching so I have been watching, some. Yeah, I like the 'old' Olympics: swimming, diving, track and field, gymnastics. The rest can go.

These Olympics have been awful. The broadcasting and commentating, the wokefulness, the Russians-but-not-really-Russians storyline...
