Pretty sure that is what you meant. And yeah same experience.
UPS, FedEx and the rest has a problem with handguns being stolen by employees, rather than address and fix the problem, they simply created in house rules that mandate all handguns MUST ship overnight. This is because overnight shipments have better oversight than ground. It's also an amazing scam to charge gun owners and dealers for the cost of internal theft.
Most FFLs figured out you can register your FFL with the USPS and then ship handguns flat rate, but for NON FFLs this is still a serious felony.

It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

Good advice SteyrAUG.
ATF website says 18 USC 922 requires you notify the carrier:
"A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her or her own state or to a licensee in any state. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun.
In addition, federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm or ammunition, prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm and requires obtaining written acknowledgement of receipt.
[18 U.S.C. 922(a)(2)(A), 922(a)(5), 922(e) and (f); 27 CFR 478.30 and 478.31]"

I've had UPS tell me they have to ship handguns via Next Day Air. The packages are tracked differently than regular UPS Ground. In my experience UPS Next Day Air takes 3 to 4 days.
UPS started this nonsense when handguns began to disappear from a UPS distribution facility on the east coast. Rather than pushing for spirited prosecution and lengthy prison sentences upon conviction of the offending employees, UPS decided to make it harder for us to ship handguns.
Train 2 Win
Don’t even get me started on dimensional weight! I took the grips off my 44 to ship back to CZ to have it re-timed and all the springs replaced. Then they tell me it doesn’t matter how much I lighten it up, it goes off dimensional weight first and then actual weight. FFL to ship is the cheapest for sure. Just make sure they don’t put your serial number on their books before sending it. It is not a transfer and you don’t want someone accidentally filling out a 4473 on your gun. Had a kid try to put my 2020 Python on his employer’s books while shipping it back to Colt for me to get the 2020 issues removed from it.
