So if you are a cop that deals with shit all day and then you come home and get lumped in with all the other shitbags who thinks a badge makes them something more than a civilian it's easy to think "**** it why do I even bother."

So anything that leads to an "us vs. them" mentality is counter productive and everyone (you, me and all the LE guys) should probably do everything reasonable to prevent that. We do really want to be on the same team for many reasons that work both ways.

Also don't think I don't understand where you are coming from. As a LE instructor for many years I have heard "civilians don't need machine guns" from too many guys and it's offensive. Lots and lots of anti gun shit in the ranks of probably every PD, but we need to remember that it isn't all of them and a lot of those guys are working hard to defend our rights even though it sometimes causes friction for them on the job.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

To be fair, when I was in as a young 18-22yo lad I too viewed most "civilians" with disdain. Certainly not a correct attitude to have, but given what most military folks go through and the lives they live (I was a grunt, not a pogue) it was easy to go "Pffttt" and brush civvies off. Obviously 34+ years later I see it differently. Things are relative.
That is probably the most reasonable sentiment in this thread. I think sometimes we are all guilty of "nobody loves freedom more than I" attitude complete with chip on shoulder. Doesn't matter if you are active military who is actually in harms way in a actual, factual war...a LEO who is out on the streets holding fast at the thin blue line between safe streets and criminals running wild or just the hardcore libertarian "freedom fighter" who actually took a moment to read and understand the constitution.

At some point we are all true believers ready to take up arms or already have taken up arms and then we get to be 20 years older and we have less to prove (especially on the net) and we learn to relax more and criticize less.

I'm more disappointed by anti gun sentiments among our members of the military than I am truly offended. I think if we stopped pissing on each others shoes long enough we might be able to come to an understanding of exactly why ordinary people might engage in serious firearms training.

I also think Will raises a valid point, was this guy really objecting or was he just calling out the LARPr Brigade? Cause honestly the LARPs drive me nuts too.

Just telling it like it is. Are there good ones? Sure. But the statist culture as a whole is going in some very scary directions.

Hell I’d make fun of you if I saw you at the range trying to be “operator cool”. Doesn’t mean I don’t think you can’t do what you want or that you shouldn’t be allowed to LARP but I’d still make fun of you. For example: went to one of Ivan’s Coast to Coast meets. A dude shows up kitted out in full multicam, a full bat belt with a Sig 320 in a drop leg and “tactical shoes”. Do I think he didn’t deserve to be there? Nope. Did I laugh inside and wonder who he was trying to impress? Yep!
    BINGO!!

The tacti-cool operator wannabes are cringe worthy when you see them. You all have the right to play dress up at the range, and hell training out of your gear now and then to make sure it works is fine but unless you kick down doors for a living you’re training for something you’re very unlikely to do.

Most of us are now members of 1st Civ Div, as such most of my training revolves around the kind of gun I’m going to have on me, in the kind of gear I’ll be wearing. That means a handgun, and normal ass street clothes.

Uncle Sugar doesn’t pay me to be an infantryman anymore, so I don’t live my life training to do infantryman shit.

    Sorry, just my experience...
Last I checked, civilians aren't getting Friday afternoon lectures on not driving drunk, visiting off-post restricted locations, zero tolerance drug lectures, room inspections and mandatory stand-down training cuz someone screws up.

All those adjectives don't just apply to civilians...

Yeah, I hated giving the "Safety Brief" as much as I hated listening to it, but do you know why it's done?
Just calling it like I see it, but lets be real, I've not had to live as a civilian since I was like 17, mmmm I'm 60 now.
