Granted it's one heck of a collector piece, but it ain't like it changed history.

Go Ukraine! Piss on the Russian dead.
I would like to know how they proved the provenance of the gun. I guess the buyer never heard the adage, "Buy the gun and not the story".
A person who is not inwardly prepared for the use of violence against him is always weaker than the person committing the violence. - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago
Generally speaking, about all you could actually prove is that Pat Garrett actually owned the gun, most likely from Colt shipping docs. Then it would be a matter of Pat actually and publicly saying or documenting in his time that "Yes, this is the gun".

I think I remember reading Wyatt Earps widow sold several examples of the gun he used at the OK corral.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
Chuck, we miss ya man.
