Dueling Tree as Competition

My son and I have been using a rimfire 22 Dueling 6 paddle tree and our AR-15/22s and have a hoot of a time. We call it “GUNFIGHT” since it is kind of interactive and involves a balance of speed and accuracy. I was wondering if anyone has set up competitors where you’d have people go head to head and then have winner and losers brackets so people would get to shoot multiple times and you’d end up people competing against people more their skill level.
My son and I run a two mag limit and that is usually enough, but I could see two fast, comparable shooters not ever getting a three target advantage, but I guess if you limited the round count, you’d end up with someone with at least more targets turned.
My son does cheat and say that I didn’t win sometimes . Seems it wouldn’t be that hard to make electrical contacts on the paddles so that you’d complete a circuit when they were all flipped to one side. But how would you wire a light or something to stay lit if after one side was complete a round flipped one away? Any thoughts on that?

I got 5k rounds in last month, so I got some ammo to use. Centerfire for practice or fun gets expensive quick. I think it could be an interesting competition. A few bays set up, or even on the same line. Hopefully it would increase the shooting-time to standing-around-time. Each Head2head lasts about a minute. Just wondering how you’d set up brackets to get everyone an equal chance to shoot.

I've been spending more and more time shooting steel at the outdoor range I belong to one the last couple of years, Pistol Plate Racks & Rifle Torso and Silhouette. Need to look up that 22 dueling tree, my daughter would find that very fun indeed.

I’ve have the Action Target one now and it is pretty good. I had an MGM target. The stand on the action is tripod, and I put a wing nut on the forward leg so I can loosen it, fold it, and stow it in the back of a Yukon. Great times.

Speed loader for 22lr mags is a key- unless you want to slow down…

Maybe set up the paddles so they have one circuit fire a relay or solenoid to complete the light circuit, then you have to manually reset the relay before the next round?

Yaaaaa, I’m electronics dumb. Runs in my family, my Dad electrocuted me twice when we were working on house electric. So I get that the solenoid actuates with electric current. Is there a turn key unit that would show left or right circuit complete, and then a reset button?

I have a friend who's an electronics expert who's looking into that, but thinks it wouldn't be too hard to design and build from scratch. Right now what I'm thinking would be a simple microprocessor comparison circuit with something like... sorry, gonna get nerdy here...

Dunno if this comes through as readable and my handwriting sucks diarrheic ass, but it should give some idea of the logic circuit design. Basically, unless we can find a chip with six inputs on a single AND gate, we're stuck forming five gates into a "logic tree" for each side.

Each "tree" leads to a Normally Open switch (think a circuit breaker in reverse, where trigger input flips the switch closed until reset rather than open) that then turns on a light--I suggest say Red for Right and Blue for Left.

Man, I miss Radio Shack right now... heck, even Fry's.
