Yep. That’s the key. I live in a poor state and the Fed will hold that checkbook over our heads, no matter how red of a state it is. That’s why we finally had to create a seatbelt law and it’s the same in this case.

The problem is the populations that make me dub the blue states "People's Republic of Dumbassistan"... then again, even here we have a strange mix, some counties are trying to insist on proof of needling to eat out and yet my usual sandwich shop doesn't even bother with facediapers when I'm in there until the crowd starts arriving. (Granted, the owner has a specific ADA Accommodation policy of "we're required to post but if we see you without we assume you have an ADA exemption, wink wink nod nod" and since I'm usually the first sale of the business week, a fair-sized one and about five minutes before regular opening time they see me as both a lucky charm and a revenue stream.) Heck, the gals on the morning crew are so vaxskeptic they make ME look like a Fauci fluffer... and we all know how I want to see that evil little freak tried for Crimes Against Humanity for his part in loosing this plague upon the world.

I think it's over in most places with a few small exceptions. And I don't mean urban vs rural or coast vs middle. I mean everywhere people are just done with it. Everywhere I go no one cares, or seems to care, who's wearing what and where. And there's no consistency either. Old people not masked, young people masked but in a group some are and some not. Some people seem to wear mask as an accessory, like sunglasses. They're in a store with the mask under the chin . Some still drive with masks on, some are outside by themselves with no one even 20ft away and yet theyre still masked.....as if there's a possibility of sudden appearance of people around them. But with all that they're all still going about their daily lives

It's still stupid here in the RGV...we were finally reaching a 50/50 point with masks till the border surge ramped back up & local media hyped up the fear. I would say it's about 90% masks when I hit a big chain retailer & folks wearing them to the tables in the eateries.

Did some shopping on the weekend and went to see some properties off the beaten path. Everyone is going about their business the way they feel comfortable. I would say it's mostly unmasked. Maybe 60/40 - 70/30. What I don't see anymore are N95 masks and N100 respirators. Everyone wearing masks is 90% blue hospital mask and the rest are cloth or whatever.

Ok the way home I stopped at a bar I hadn't been in in years for a beer. Used to be THE weekend hangout spot for the better part of 00s. Figured I'd grab a beer and see what's new. They had an official sign up front from the city saying that everyone must wear masks until eating. Well, I walked in without a mask and people were walking around without masks and not everyone was eating. A few people did have masks. All staff were masked. People are ignoring the signs or maybe just don't notice them anymore and business owners don't seem to be making a big deal about it.

Before that was at Costco and no one observed the 6ft rule but I think that went out the window last summer. I only saw it being followed and enforced at the very beginning.

Most places still have the plaxiglass up between the cashier and the customer which doesn't make sense in some places....like Costco.

The local corporate supermarket does not have any mandates and their staff is mostly unmasked. I don't know if it's a vax thing or not but they have a large base of young people (18-25) employeed and none are wearing masks and I don't think they're all vaccinated. So it's pretty pretty chill here with that.

Going to WAWA (like 7/11) for coffee I see most of the staff is masked but not all and no logic behind it....at least not visually. Some younger employees are masked, some not. Some older employees are, some not.

Any kind of ethnic markets majority of employees and customers are not masked.

I was thinking about this a bit and decided that Fauci has to stay on this course.
The minute he deviates, he is shown to be a fraud and this entire ponzi scheme falls apart and he goes to jail or more likely someone pulls his plug.
He's not playing a game, he's trying to stay alive and our of jail.
So the lies will continue, the more outrageous and illogical, the closer he is to falling apart.
